Memory cards?

I am in the process of replacing my Canon 3SIS with a new camera, probably the Canon SX40 HS. Is there a certain type of memory card that works best with the newer camera models? Is there something specific I need to look for if I buy new cards? Thanks!

I would be looking for a 32GB class 10 SDHC (on sale in the $25 range) If you do not plan on much video, then a pair of 16GB class 10 SDHC would do fine, too. (it's good to have a backup card, I have a 32GB and a few 8GB cards)

The other option is an Eye Fi SDHC card that would give you the option of wirelessly transferring pics to your computer, phone or tablet.

Does it matter if it says class 10 "FLASH" memory card? what does the class 10 and flash mean exactly?

Class 10 is a minimum speed rating, 10MB/s.
DSLr cameras can usually take advantage of even faster write speeds. (10 is the highest spec, but i think some cards are 33 or so) For a PnS it usually just means files copy to your computer a bit faster.

Flash is the type of memory that is writeable and does not need continual power...all SDHC cards are flash, so don't worry about that.

I would stay with a more recognized name like SanDisk. The last time i questioned Trancend someone said it was good, It's possible that saying SanDisk is better is like saying Chevy is better than Hyundai. (used to be true, but now?)

I didn't want to hijack the SX40 thread..
But when I see threads like this on the FZ200, it's stepping on the toes of semi-pro sports photographers with $3000+ in DSLr gear:

(I know these are not perfect, but a darn good start for people with a new camera)

I always recommend Sandisk. I've had the fewest issues with them.

Sorry for the confusion. I wanted to add more to the post I made on the other thread.

Both links (soccer and football) are the FZ200 from the Panasonic board at DPreview.com

I hate to recommend any camera before reviews get published (sometimes cameras have operational quirks for some users that get in the way of capability) but it sure seems like the SX40 is a very nice camera, but the FZ200 is bordering on "Wow!"
Personally I'm glad the FZ200 is a bridge camera and so expensive. I like my near-pocketable camera, and I would be less likely to carry around a camera that expensive. (I didnt get any day beach pictures because I didn't want to risk my $370 camera)

What does the UHS on the SanDisk class 10 memory cards mean? I only see that on that brand. Also, some say "extreme" (with the UHS) and some say "ultra". What is the difference?

It appears that UHS is good, supposed to mean better than class 10, but it is also a spec mired by marketing folks:
