I was reading about memory cards; one article said some cameras can't really reap the benefit of a type II. I know the XT can take I or II; does the II offer significant performance improvement on the Rebel XT?

Likewise, will I notice any difference in the XT if I go w/ SanDisk regular vs. Sandisk Ultra II?

As always, thanks for sharing your opinions and experiences; y'all have taught me tons already!!!

I have read (my little disclaimer admitting I don't have solid stats) that the ultra II is about as fast as the camera needs. But I have two 2 gig cards. They can fill up quick shooting RAW and they take 10-15 minutes to upload thru a pc slot on my laptop.
Again I do not know if a faster card will download to a computer faster but if anyone does please let us know.
thanks

You won't notice much (if any difference) on single shots between the two card apeeds (types). You will see a difference if you let the camera burst past the amount the buffer can hold. As an example with my 20D (camera write speed is between 18X-24X) I don't have any slow down due to buffering (at 5 fps) until I reach about 55-65 shots with an Ultra II. A standard card will start to slow at about 23-25 shots. The biggest advantage to the Ultra II (or any faster card) is when you download pictures from the card to a PC, they will copy off the card much quicker.

Memory cards have gotten cheap enough that I don't get less than the Ultra II (or similar), and I can't justify the even faster cards.

Mike

You'll only see the Extreme III difference in browsing (within the camera) and download.

Using Ultra II I can do about 5 fps for 40 frames continuously.

Jen,

Did you just win a Sigma 18-125 from Ebay the other day? I was bidding for it and the person who won was poohjen05, just wondering if it was you. I don't mind losing out to a fellow dis board member.

Yup, NJDad, that be me! I'll save the next one for you, okay! :teeth: By the way, if it helps, I forced myself to wait til the last minute, then submitted my highest bid (it won't make you pay your highest unless all the other bids got there incrementally). I think I still won it $20-30 below my highest. The few people that were bidding at the end there seemed to be going in small increments, that's how/why I got it (that's my guess, anyway!)

HTH! :wave2:

what was the final price including shipping if I may know?

I may be selling my backup Sigma 18-125 (never used, only tested right after the purchase) soon.

Kelly, I got it for $180, plus $10 s/h (plus I added another $5 for insurance). I haven't received it yet (USPS shows it is enroute); I'll let everyone know whether or not it is in "excellent" condition! (fingers crossed!) :goodvibes

Hey NJDad! There's a Sigma 18-125 ebay ending around 1:25 eastern time tomorrow! Good luck! :thumbsup2 (or better yet, maybe Kelly is almost ready to part with hers/his) :teeth:

not until Canon releases its 18-125 (or 200) with IS :) Then I'll get rid both my used 18-125 and my backup 18-125. :goodvibes

Doh! WHEN is that supposed to be happening?!!! (don't tell me "a day after your Sigma 18-125 arrives, Jen". :scared1:

It's supposed to be announced by the end of June, prototype released by September, actual units shipped in December for around US$1,000 MSRP (all these data are tentative, Image Quality is also pending because I haven't even seen the sample shots).

Jen,

Thanks for the heads up. I'll only buy it on ebay if it's I can get it for around $200. I was bidding from work and we were having some internet problems so I could not get a last bid in. I don't mind losing out to somebody on this board.

I may just buy it from sigma 4 less at $240. I can't wait until Kelly sells her copy. We're going to BWV in August so I need the lens then.
