My new 6D from B&H came with a few accessories, including a SanDisk 16 GB memory card. I have lots of other cards, but just opted to pop that new one in for my first shots. I formatted and started shooting. I shot a couple groups of test shots and downloaded them just fine.

I was finally able to pick the camera back up again yesterday for my daughter's volleyball game. It shot just fine. Then I picked it back up again last night for a couple more shots at home, but it said the card could not be accessed. I took the card out to see if I could download the shots so I could reformat. No luck. The computer won't even recognize that the card is in the slot.

Is the card just toast and any shots on it lost? Not the end of the world, but sort of unnerving that something like that could happen out of the blue. I have only ever used SanDisk cards and have never had one fail.

Is the one they sent you the SanDisk Extreme 16gb (Gold label). That`s the one they sent me with my 70D. I`ve been using it with no problems but I`m getting ready to purchase 6 more for my upcoming trip and I really don`t want any issues.

It's SanDisk Ultra class 10. It has a silver label.

I really don't care about the card. It's that feeling of unease that's bothering me.

Man you're having great luck with cameras this year! ;)

It's definitely disconcerning but I'd go with it just being a defective memory card, especially if the PC won't even recognize the card as inserted - That's definitely hardware failure.

Well, there is one common denominator in all of it. :cool2: That reminds me.... better go mail in that new camera warranty card. ;)

Good thing my daughter still has one volleyball match to shoot. I really had been looking forward to seeing how the new camera did.

Sandisk does have some disk recovery software and the cards are guaranteed, so you can probably get a replacement. If they haven't changed their procedures since I had some replaced, it is rather convoluted and lengthy compared to some other manufacturers. I don't use Sandisk anymore because I had three cards come apart and lose the lock switch. I never lost any data, but it was a pain getting them replaced in a timely fashion. Good luck.

BTW, you probably already tried another card to ensure it wasn't the camera, right?

I'm just guessing that since the computer won't recognize there's anything on the card slot, recovery software is out of the question. I haven't had time to mess with it much yet, but thought I might try a card reader later. I only posted here to see if there's anything else I should try.

And I did try another card and it's working fine. Whew! The cats are getting tired of me stalking them with the new camera though. :)

Not necessarily, the recovery software can sometimes find the data. I don't know how it works, but it does.
