Memory Card Dilemma

I am buying a new 2GB SD card for my upcoming trip to WDW. I have found two that I am interested in, but cannot make a decision. Can you all give me your opinions and help me decide?

1. Kingston Ultimate 133x $30 shipped
2. SanDisk Ultra II $32 after tax local

The specs and Rob Galbraith's speed test lead me to believe that the Kingston will be faster. Also, Kingston seems to be a little more legit in their speed claims that some of the other off brands. Also, it has a lifetime warranty(this usually means five years). The SanDisk is a little slower, but I am not even sure that my K100D can take advantage of the extra speed of the Kingston. The Kingston should download a little faster though. The SanDisk has a three year warranty and is well, a SanDisk. I keep leaning towards the SanDisk just because of the name and my perception that it could be more reliable. BTW... I have never had problems with any of my cards from either of these brands in the past. What do you think? :confused3

I'll leave for others to give you a more technical answer on the speed issue but...

I have both (CF) for my Rebel XT. The SanDisk is my primary card, although I notice no discernable difference between the two.

Unless you get a speed/quality answer to tip the scales, I'd go with the SanDisk b/c it's local, you'll have it right away, if there's any trouble, you can bring it right back to the store.

Good luck, and have a great trip!:wizard:

That is true, plus it gives me the excuse that I need to get out and "test" the new card in the next four weeks. ;)

Well, I ended up with the Kingston from Amazon. The DW had a couple of CDs she was wanting, so we got the free shipping. The card was $26 and actually from Amazon and not a partner.

I would just grab the more convenient one and not worry about it. I doubt that the difference is large enough to merit any concern.

I have the 2gig sandisk ultra with my rebel xt and I highly recomend it. I wouldn't worry about the speed it has never let me down.

I would go with the Kingston. They are a very big name in memory (certainly a much bigger name in PC memory than SanDisk) if you're concerned about that.

I personally don't think that the Sandisk name is worth paying extra for - heck, none of them are.

I wish I could find some more of the $20 2gb memory card deals... I could use another one. I'd also buy a Fuji F31fd right now if I could find a decent deal on a 2gb xD card. Alas, I haven't found any yet. :(

I have to agree with Groucho. Kingston is a very reputable company. If I had the choice, it would be mine.

I went with the Kingston for $24.95. It was only about $4 cheaper than the Sandisk, but it is also faster and has a better warranty. I have bought two other Kingston cards in the past with no problems. Both cards were eligible for free shipping from Amazon if anyone is looking for a card right now.

xD cards are very slow. I think you would get a quite frustrated with the read/write speed on them.
There are high-speed versions. However, I don't think speed of the card should matter too much for the intended usage. This is for a Fuji F31fd to replace my wife's Canon SD600, so she can get better low-light performance - SD600s are going for just a little less than what an F31 can be bought for new, so the camera upgrade will be pretty cheap, but that dard xD price is annoying. Best I've found so far is $40 for a 2gb card. If only they had gone to the dual SD/xD slots when that camera was made, we would have made the switch already.
