Memorial Weekend Crowds?

We'll be going to WDW from 20th May to 4th June, and it appears that the starting of our trip will coincide with the Memorial Weekend. Correct me if I'm wrong because I'm dealing with some time difference so my dates may be off, but I'm guessing that crowd levels from 23rd to 25th May [sat - mon] are going to skyrocket?

The thing is, we'll be arriving at approximately 11pm on 20th May, which means that jet lag's going to get a nasty hold on us on 21st May, so I'm guessing that we won't be venturing near the parks that day. Which gives us one day before the Memorial Weekend crowd rush.

We're planning to go to both WDW and Universal Studios & IOA this trip.. with 2 days or so set aside for shopping. I was thinking of making 21st May a shopping day, but then we'll have the Memorial Weekend crowds to deal with so..

Anyway, I'm not from USA [we're allll the way from SEA], so I really have limited experience with WDW crowds. Basically I've got three questions:

1) Are the crowds going to be so daunting that we should probably avoid WDW on those 3 days?

2) Would we have better luck at the studios / IOA? On one hand, I think I recall reading that crowd levels at universal aren't as high as the ones at WDW, but I could be wrong.

3) Should we skip the shopping on the 21st and perhaps brave Animal Kingdom with the potential jet lag and save the shopping for the weekend + monday?

All advice and thoughts will be most appreciated! :flower3:

This will be my first trip during Memorial Day weekend. I am a little worried about crowds, but DH and I are going without the kids, so we are figuring that even if it is busy, it won't be too bad because we won't have crabby children with us. :lmao:

From my past experience during my various visits at different times of the year, the weekends are always busy no matter what. Are you staying onsite? If so extra magic hours might help you a bit. We are planning on taking full advantage of those during our trip. We are there 5/21-5/25.

hiya Sarah! :)

Unfortunately, we won't be staying on-site. :sad2: We decided to be scrooges with the accommodation because the plane tickets were setting us back by a good 1.5kUSD each. :sad1: On the bright side, we'll have 10 day passes to WDW, so hopefully that'll make up for something.

Thanks for replying, sweets! :dumbo:
