I'm going with Tupac Shakur. According to VH1 he didn't die until Sept. 13. However, he died closest to the date given by Memolink - the others were well off.

Okay - he was shot on the 7th. Technically the plug wasn't pulled on him for 6 more days, but I don't think Memolink knows that. It is the correct answer.
