I don't think I've seen addressed the idea of transfer from either a restricted to a non restricted contract or vice versa. I'd assume the worst case scenario but you may want to call MS and ask, possibly even call several times over several days or talk to a supervisor.

Their computer shows your restricted contract and prohibits use of that contract's particular points for the Disney Collections. It is easy for DVD to do that since , when you made the purchase, the contract had to be submitted for ROFR and then had to be added to your account after closing. Transferring points between contracts is easy for computer to track and maintain prohibition.

No doubt it's relatively easy and they can track them. However, I've not personally seen how this is being handled when it comes to transfers and other similar situations. Here are a few scenarios where they could go one way or another.

  • Single member with one master and a mix of both. Will they allow the non qualified points to be used toward restricted options?
  • Single member with separate masters where one is qualified and one not, how will they handle transferred points in each direction?
  • Qualified owner who receives non qualified points?
  • Non qualified owner who receives qualified points.

Obviously there are a few in between scenarios as well. My guess is they'll be inconsistent but generally go with the status of the account the points are in. I'd bet money they don't track every single point and enforce the restrictions consistently. We'll see but it'll take time to gather the info. One word of caution, while asking DVC and MS at this point is going to be the main source of info, don't take it as absolute. I'll bet we'll see many variations over the next few years that are different than the party line. I know of timeshares that are a lot more strict and involved in resale restrictions than DVC and they too are inconsistent. Marriott holds to the rules almost 100% but generally those are more full week options. Bluegreen goes by the status of the member and doesn't worry about the individual points too much. Maybe Brian or Jim and others can state how companies like Wyndham handle this issue.
