We've been renting from the same DVC member for 7 years now, we met her at the R&C a few years back so I consider us to have a personal as well as a professional relationship. We're booked through her at BW from Oct 18 - 27, we go specifically for F&W. Our concern is what to do if F&W is cancelled this year. We'd gladly go if the food kiosks will be open and we can do 1 park per day, we have platinum APs.

The question is what impact on her would our cancellation cause? We've given her half, the rest due around Labor Day. I don't want to jeopardize our relationship or cause her a loss. If it's cancelled, we'd prefer to just skip forward to 2021, what to do?

With resorts open, they are not really making any exception to points

Right now, they are waiving The holding penalty and allowing borrowed points to go back...but those could end at any time,

IMO, I think we will see the borrowed points rule at some point in the near future.

Of course, it still depends on her specific situation...UY, type of points, and most importantly, what she is willing to do based on all that.

The sooner you decided not to go, the more options might be there.

Why not just tell her what you are thinking and ask if she could reschedule to a later date without losing points? If she would lose, you can just decide to go, but if she can reschedule and is willing, it would be a win for both of you. Good luck!

Agree. I am in a similar spot with someone I rented to.

In short, with a late UY (I.e. December), if the points are banked from 2018, those points will be really hard to use and rebook. if they are 2019 points, they can be banked to next year and used them.

My renter paid in full. We agreed that if he can confirm yes or no by July 1, I can bank those points and rebook next year for the same price. No refund. July 31 is my banking deadline so that gives me some time to cancel and bank and plan another room.

After July 1 he is taking that risk. But we had the conversation to set it in stone because our rental agreement is that it was non refundable but I wanted to work with him.

She would have to cancel the reservation by Sept 17 to avoid the points going into holding. But if she was already in the last four months of her Use Year, the points would expire at the end of the UY. If they were banked, they would probably have to be used by the end of the UY. If they were borrowed, they might not let her put them back into the next UY.

I had the same conversation with the owner I was renting from. He only asked that I give him sufficient time to cancel the reservation and not put it in holding (31 days) but I will tell him at about 45 days before the start of the reservation. My owner has been kind enough to book a 3rd reservation for me in the event my cruise doesn't occur (same dates as cruise).

I bet she values the rental relationship you have developed. I would suggest reaching out and see what can be done to mitigate any loss. We haven’t heard one peep yet if F&W will go on but Swan and Dolphin’s has been canceled. Based upon that alone, I would almost wager to bet 95.5% that Disney will also cancel F&W.

I’d reach out and ask her if she can bank the points and cancel or put a plan in place to cancel by xyz date.

Second matter that needs to be addressed is payment. Since you have already paid half, do you know if she’s able to refund your cost? What if she used it to cover the AF’s? What if she’s not in a position to pay it back? Would you willing give up that payment as your cancellation fee?

I’m sure if she’s able to re rent the reservation, she would have no issues with refunding a loyal friend. Goodluck on whatever you decide! And please do it ASAP! The window is getting narrower for making any changes.

I emailed our DVC owner and explained our concerns. She said she thinks her points will be safe but she'll call to verify this. We've decided to bail on this year's F&W, can't imagine it being much fun with the restrictions, masks (although we religiously wear them here) and no concerts. I monitor Fla virus news daily and it appears the numbers are heading in the wrong direction. We're going to Myrtle Beach for 2 weeks starting June 27 and their numbers are bad also but we've got ocean front condos for our 3 families in a sparsely populated area so it will be beach, balcony and golf only.

Thanks for all the advice!

@PSUGuy, thanks for letting us know what you decided. FWIW, I think you made a good decision - probably because we also cancelled our October reservation. :teeth: I just didn't think it would be safe for us and not much fun, anyway, given all the changes Disney has had to make. Hoping next Fall and beyond will be better.
