"Members Only" Jackets- The Poll

Did you have a Members Only Jacket in the 80s?

  • Yes, of course. Who didn't?

  • Had to settle for a Sears or Penneys off brand.

  • Didn't care to be a "member" of that club. Too trendy.

  • What's a Members Only Jacket?

So my DD wants a new North Face for Christmas. The one I bought her last year was $80, the jacket she wants this year is $149. And this morning I was thinking to myself, why in the heck would I pay that much money for a jacket?? I guess the word jacket triggered my memory and I remember really, really wanting a Members Only jacket when I was in the 5th grade. Unfortunately, my dad was a single parent and couldn't afford the real deal, so I got one from Sears that was a knock off.

Anyway, thinking back, I remember kids and adults of all ages wearing them. Figured the Dis would be a pretty good cross section of ages to poll to see who had one.

Uh, DH still has one.:rotfl2: He'd still wear it if he could fit in it.:rolleyes1

I wanted one. This was back in the early 80's. I begged my parents for one. So, they went to Burdine's (now Macy's) and ended up buying me a similar looking jacket from London Fog. It was way better quality than Members Only and I had it for many many years. :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

I wasn't a real member, I had a grey knock-off from Sears. I never got the name brand stuff :sad1:

I wanted one sooo bad...but got a knock off...

I heard the term before but didn't know what one was, so that's how I voted Then I saw a picture of one an realized I did know what it was. But I just considered it "a jacket". The only thing I cared about in brands when I was a kid were Nike shoes and Levi jeans.

I've gotten a knock-off. Still have one. Would wear it again once I quit being lazy and sew the cuff.

A friend of mine once in a while still wears his. He's got the real deal in both the lightweight and a heavier weight one.

Granted the jacket I REALLY wanted one year was the Michael Jackson red Thriller jacket. And the only ones I saw were the knock-offs at Zayres.

I was looking at Google images to find a picture of one to post for those who weren't familiar. Turns out, the vintage 80's ones are making a comeback AND the company is still in business. I wish I could remember what color mine was...I think it was black. Anyway, here is a pic.

Here is a pic of Zac Effron wearing a vintage one

And just to clarify, since I posted no women wearing one, these jackets were worn by males and females. A true staple of the 80's!

Around here only men wore them so it was nothing I ever wanted. DH never had one but my dad did. I would bet its still around his closet if I looked!

Mine was a tan color. My husband's was black. If we still had them, he would still be able to fit into his while I, alas, would not.

only guys had them where I lived (CA) every guy I knew had one I think, but no girls did.

I loved my gray Members Only jacket! I also had a red knockoff one. My dad, 83 still wears his. I mentioned it to him a couple of weeks ago, saying that he's still wearing a jacket from the 80's?? :lmao:

I had a gray knock-off. :rolleyes1

DS HATES to wear jackets so he has never asked for one - Members Only, North Face, or otherwise. In fact, I bought him a North Face jacket from Nordstrom and he refused to wear it so I took it back.

DH still had one in his closet until I took it to Goodwill a couple of years ago. Might be the one Zach Effron is wearing above because it was the same color! :rotfl:

Couldn't have a Members Only jacket without a pair of aviator sunglasses. :lmao:
