Member's Meetings

A few of you have mentioned attending member's meetings when staying at your DVC. How do you find out when the member's meetings are held?

The members meetings are held Tuesday mornings at OKW and Thursday mornings at BWV. They start at 8 am and are in the community hall. When you check in they give you a list of activities at the resort and they are listed there too.

Also, we've always received a phone message the day before reminding us of the meeting.

We hardly ever get phone messages from anyone while staying at the resorts (People call us on our cell phone, not the resort phone), so when that light is flashing on the phone that there's a message, I know ahead it's a reminder about the member's meeting.

Our light was flashing 3 times on our recent OKW trip. The first time was Monday night, so I knew it was about the member's meeting. Then Tuesday or Wednesday night it was about storytime at Papa's Den and then on Thursday morning about the ferry not running until later.

There is no meeting at VWL- since there is no Community Hall, but VWL members are welcome at the OKW and BWV meetings.

The meetings are fun and entertaining and a chance to meet other members...and win some DVC logo doorprizes.

We try to make it each trip and usually pick up some little fact from the presentation.

We also, always get a phone message telling us about the members meetings. Also at BWV they hang a big sign outside of the community hall a day or two before announcing the meetings.

Have never been to members' meeting, although seen announcements -- always thought it was to encourage to buy more points, what actually happens?

The member meetings mostly explain how to use points outside of the DVC resorts, explaining the Concerge collection, etc.

They also update members on what's happening as to sales. That is, what's available, sold out, etc. News of anything happening such as status of DI, etc.

There is no pitch at all to buy any more points. It's questions and answers about the club. If you do want to buy more points they'll refer you to your guide, although they have information there if you want it. But it's not a sales presentation at all.

I will be arriving Orlando early Monday morning but not checking into OKW until Thursday morning. The meetings are open to all members even if not staying on site, right? I always try to go to these meetings while there. Gives me something to do while the rest of the clan sleeps.

I disagree on the intent of the meetings. I find them enjoyable, but the bottom-line still comes across as a means to entice members to purchase more points. Even explaining the other options, is a way to show the value of the points. There's no pressure at all, but I doubt they would exist if there wasn't more to "sell".
