We have been having member's day every Tuesday for years now. It is the day we all are suppose to wear our DVC shirts. Every Tuesday there is a meeting at OKW where goodies are served and members chat. The whole idea is of course to get you interested in buying more points. I was never charged for these meetings for what I ate. They are now having a BBQ that is anouther member's day meeting. If they charge you for anything DVC has hit a new low. Remember it is really a meet to get you to buy more points. I have been to two, one I only did an about face an left the other I stayed for awhile. Every trip I go to DVC there is the red light blinking on my phone telling of the member's day meet. Have fun I am sure the BBQ will be a little better than the previous member's days because it is only going to be held through the summer which I am sure they will have sold out BCV and introduced you all to the new Saratoga Springs!! Have fun:D

I don't know how far back you go. The original Member Meets were late afternoon receptions at OKW (when it was known as DVC.)

They served hot and cold hors douvres, beverages, including wine, and it was complimentary. It was a wonderful opportunity to meet other members.

Next came the early morning meets. I've never been but DH has and I know that they serve coffee, etc and some pastries. I also know that they would discuss the status of other resorts that were available for adding on.

Following that came the concept of "Member Day" where you're asked to wear an article of clothing that identifies you as a DVCer.

And now we have the Member Barbecue. I don't see anything sinister behind it, and I sure don't have a problem for paying for it. If they talk about adding on, no big deal. I'm just looking forward to spending a nice time with other DVCers, same as on the Member Cruise, and same as the early days when DVC was just beginning.

Thanks, Reg!

The messages left on the voicemail on Monday evening are for the Member Updates (held Tuesday's at 8:00am at OKW and Thursdays at 8:00am at BWV). They offer a complimentary continental breakfast and the program is an overview of all the options available for DVC point usage. It is offered by the sales staff and they are available afterwards for questions and information about purchasing more points. It lasts an hour and is not a pushy sales event by any means. We go to one on every trip.

The Barbeque is a new event this summer. It begins at BWV with some activities (and prizes) and progresses to the quiet pool area at BCV for a cook-out (for a fee) including beer and wine. It is designed as a "mixer" for DVC members. If the sales staff is available to answer questions, it's a great opportunity to at least get more information about the program. I have no issue with a social event for members- with or without the prescence of the sales staff. The food is an optional component of the event and certainly is not required to enjoy the company of other members.

Paying to attend a sales pitch situation, no matter how subtle is the problem I have with it. I would not go itf it were free, but to pay for it is beyond belief. Take out your wallets guys and enjoy, not me. This is a first, paying to go to a sales pitch situation, food should be free not optional. Have fun at the BBQ everyone. I will be down there in July but no where near that function. What next!!

Where have you seen any suggestion that it's a "sales pitch situation" ? Please provide the section of the description of the event where any mention was made that it will be a sales pitch- as I missed it in all of the announcements I've seen.

Since it's held outside at both the BWV/Boardwalk and BCV areas, it appears that there may not be a good means to even offer a sales presentation, but please share your knowledge of this new event and how it will be conducted. Do you have some inside information, not generally available to the rest of us, about an event yet to occur- or is this just cynical speculation on your part?

You can't please everybody. DVC tries to make an interesting outing for members and some find fault. It sounds nice to me and of course there is no pressure to attend, so you can enjoy your time at the park and skip it.

I will be going to HHI and look forward to meeting my fellow DVCers

Hi Dbond!
The first information came via a Member Email. Details are on the Member site.

It's every Tuesday starting on 7/1 through 9/2. There's a sign-up thread up on top. There's also a cut and paste description of the festivities.

Hope you can make it!:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

Thanks Reg! No email here yet but checked it out on the website. Bummer, we'll just miss it!

I talked to MS the other day and was told it was a fun event. I'm sure no-one is going to send a member packing if they ask about an add-on. Some of us may actually have that in mind. I was told there would be tours of the BCV for those that want to see them. Why is this so negative? We will be staying there in July and if we had not made a special trip on 2 occasions to check it out we would be elated to have this opportunity. Why do things have to be so negative? I think this is a wonderful presentation DVC is offering and am glad to be a part of it whether they are charging for food or not. And whether the planned activities fit my view of what DVC should offer. We have purchased 7 DVC contracts. We have not had ice cream, a free lunch, or cash incentives along the way. Not all of us have to have our hands out looking for what's in it for me all the time to feel justified in promoting something or condemning it for the lack of.

I can't wait to go to the members day events and I for one am very happy. The sales people, if there, are great to talk to and I hope there are a lot of them. I view this as a positive step by DVC and have no complaints. I am sure most members will agree.

I think the BBQ kills two birds with one stone. It's a great way to meet other members as well as DVC staff and sales guides. Is it a "sales promo event" ? I don't think so. Is there an opportunity for sales, absolutely.

I've attended several vender trade fairs where they wine & dine you and have booths set up all around with sales reps on hand to "encourage interest" in their product. To me, that is a sales promo event and all attenddies know it in advance.

The fact that guides will probably be mingling with the members thruout the day doesn't make it a trade fair or a sales event. If I strike up a conversation with a guide and because of the questions I ask and the answers I get I decide to add-on,then great, everybody is happy.

I see the BBQ as a win-win for everybody.

. . . or they are very rare. My guess is that this is designed as an opportunity to sell, but with the paid barbecue, it also makes for less obligation on the member's part to buy into the sell and makes for a much more comfortable atmosphere through which to mingle with other members. If I pay, I feel more like it's a social function and less like I'm obligated to buy something and more comfortable buying if I choose to. My point? I only wish they were having one in Vero Beach 'cause that's where I'll be in mid August.

See? I read about members' day! I can't believe, it looks like our posts were erased from the other thread. That's just so busybody. Whatever.

Well, I for one am looking forward to attending the BBQ! This will be our first trip home and will sort of "pull it all together" as to our decision to purchase. Our girls are somewhat old enough to comprehend that we've spent alot of money on this, but by seeing the aspect of "community" might make it more meaningful to them. We'd tried for the Member Cruise and realized we probably wouldn't get in,so this is a chance to socialize with other DVCer's at MUCH LESS expense of the cruise!

If the BBQ ends up being our dinner than it's no different than if we'd had a PS somewhere! Do we understand that there may be some sales involved - maybe, but whatever!

Need to remember to put my green ribbon with some of the other set-asides I have started! Natt

what time is it and how do you sign up and pay for it, we will be at BWV from July 15 to July 24 so we hit two of the Tuesdays.

Nicely said, Msdis. :)
