Member Pricing Question

We wife and I decided to buy into dvc once the dvc tower opened up so when we talked to a guide they informed us that if we wanted access to the initial release to members then we should get our membership now on a small 100 point contract so we unlock the special pricing discount when it is released in 2024. We didn’t want 100 in any of the three active selling properties so we decided to get into the club via resale. We should be closing in the next month so we can get that precious membership id and access to the portal.

Now to the question. I was listening to a podcast the other day but I can’t seem to find any confirmation of google so I am hitting up the knowledge of the forums. Is it true that to get new membership pricing as a resale owner that I need to be a member for one year first? Thanks.

I have never heard of any such rule in the 16 yrs that I've been a member.

Thanks. I usually take podcast data with a grain of salt but Chad over at *********** has always been a wealth on info for me over the 6 months so I was a little surprised when he said that rule existed. Hopefully just a misunderstanding on his end 🤞

Not sure about the one year thing, or if the pre offer only goes to direct members.
I have gotten offers for every new resort since 2006,

I have no reason to know if this is a thing, however I would not be the least surprised if the presale off was a blue card thing......

yes I'm away there are no more blue cards, I got one of the last ones

Thanks Chad from the *********** podcast reports it’s a 5.00 pp off discount that is available to all members but resale members have to wait a year before they qualify for it. Not certain if it’s a new policy or not even a thing but the podcast is only a week old and he has always been pretty solid with his podcast information.
Hopefully not a thing and he is just misinformed but if it is then I guess my year mark will be around August\September so hopefully the member sales incentives will still be going on for Polly Tower (only if it’s a new association) or Ft Wilderness (so we can bring our small dog for our resort only stays).

My question would be who is "he"
Is that your DVC guide, if not I would start with the DVC guide and for that matter get on your guides list, for information when it becomes public.

I know it has ben a minute, but I "think" BLT was about 10 dollars per point discount....
Maybe not again it has 15 years or so....

call your guide, they don't bite, they will tell you everything they know and can legally tell you.

If nothing else you will get yourself on that guides phone call list. I know my guide has a 4 page list that grows every time I call him.

I'd be a bit concerned about this supposed offer. AFIK, there has been no official announcement by DVC as to the future sale or any discount for existing members. The guide may be basing this sales pitch on past practice. But that doesn't mean it would happen this time.

I'd call this tactic a bit shady.

I haven’t asked Disney directly as I don’t have a guide yet. I updated my post to better clarify who “he” is but definitely not a broker or guide. Just some white noise podcast I listen to while writing c# and pl/sql. I am not even into day one yet of ownership so I only know what I have found through five months of research. If there is no additional discount for existing DVC members then I’ll chalk it up to more social media fluff. I was waiting to call Disney until one of the two properties I am waiting on are closer to going on sale but I guess it never hurts to find one now while o sit and wait. Thanks.

The Poly Tower is not going to sell out before the public on sale. DLT did not. RIV certainly did not. VGF2 did not.

I would not buy a resale unless you actually want those points to buy and hold.

Nah I have no interest in buying resale for Poly tower unless it’s the same association. Simply because I would get the best of both worlds: 11 month priority booking, 7 month booking elsewhere, and lower initial buy in point cost. However I am going on with the assumption it will actually be a new association so I’m not disappointed when it isn’t. I wasn’t certain how long the member sale last before the open to the public sale kicks in so that will be great if the initial member sale is still going on beyond my 12 month mark. No matter what I will get some points for the cabins but we have no need for other member perks since we only go once a year and the occasional 3 day weekend. Although now I know about RunDisney then I may find myself popping in from time to time by myself 😎

I do remember reading something regarding a one year period but I cant remember what it was in relation to…I do know that I bought direct with current owner pricing at BLT in 2009 within a month after closing on my resale.

My point was more that ig sounds like you want the tower and are buying other points so you can access presale. DVC presale is nothing like getting Taylor Swift tickets. Poly Tower will sell direct for 2-3 years. I would not buy other points that won't be usable at the tower just to access member presale.

I think they want to be eligible for the current owner pricing when it goes on sale...not worried about sell out.

Just remembered! I believe that the one year of ownership refers to the financing of DVC direct with DVD and the ability to qualify for better rates!!!
Yes! The one year has to do with financing. If you purchase resale and pay your dues without delinquency, after a year, DVD will finance a direct contract for you no matter your credit score. I was able to take advantage of price discounts on direct prior to a year owning :)

Even so, I don't see the juice as worth the squeeze unless they actually want the points they are buying and have a planned use. The resale points are unlikely to be usable at Poly tower and won't stack.

It can make it worth it if what you are buying resale is something you want in addition to the new tower.

I did that when I bought. Started with a small 75 point contract, got the deals at BLT, and sold that contract 6 months later.

Even with commissions selling, I can out ahead with having used that contracts point during the first trip.

Agreed but I really wanted CCV but after I saw the prices for direct I immediately went to resale. It wasn’t until a couple of weeks later when I heard about the Poly expansion. I know one day we will want direct points to gain 7 month access to the restricted resorts but as of now we don’t care for either of the two. However, if Poly does become restricted then we will definitely want the 11 months home advantage there and 7 months elsewhere.
Without Doc’s Delorean’s, I can’t say for certain that what I assume is going to happen will happen but I would rather not find out the hard way. One day when all these restricted resorts will sell out and if you don’t own at those resorts then you will likely not be getting them at 7 months. Reason being every resale contract contract can only use their points there so every member with direct points that is a non home member to said association will be likely waitlisting a lot. But hopefully my glass empty way of thinking gets proven wrong. Important this is, it sounds like I will have access to member pricing right away which is a very good thing. Initial pricing is usually the best it’s going to be via direct 😎. Thanks for all the great feedback all and sorry for any confusion I created along the way 🥶
