Due to a family emergency, we sadly must cancel our trip which was to begin (within 30 days)....deleted text.... Our use year is up the end of July. Can you tell me what my options are?

Post edited to remove specific so as not to be construed as a rental thread. Changes are in Dark Red - Chuck S

Unfortunately, your options are somewhat limited. You will need to try and rebook before the end of July in order to avoid losing your points. You might try using David's rental service if rebooking isn't possible.

Try renting the reservation as you will lose your points. Go to the rent trade forum. You may take a hit but maybe offer 5 per point its something and will probably get a taker.

Depending on your issue, I would call Member Services and ask them. Depending on your situation, they may make a one time exception of some kind for you. Otherwise, the rent/trade board is one option, or offer it to a family member or needy/military family? Just a thought.

So sorry for your situation, and wishing you the best of luck with the family emergency and points situation.

I'd call MS, offer documentation of said emergency. My guess is that they'll work with you. If not, ask for a supervisor. :goodvibes

Thank you all so much for your helpful suggestions. Will try to call Member Services tomorrow.

I took your suggestion and went to the rent/trade forum, but have become confused by the rules. We have not posted much, but have been members for a long time. It appears that we would need to purchase a forum "membership" in order to try to rent my reservation (reservations - we actually have 3 reservations back-to-back at different resorts). I don't know which type of membership I would need. I still hope to be able to work with Member Services when they open tomorrow, but in the meantime I'm trying to figure out what else I can do.

We had a very similar situation but to add icing to the cake had borrowed points for a may vacation this year from next year and our use year ends May 31!

MS was so gracious and credited our points back so we could enjoy a future trip with our daughter (the reason we had to cancel) when we told them about her adoption.

While you wait for Member Service to open, think of all your option to try and rent, maybe to a friend or other family members. My Step Mom was in hospice dying last Nov. and Member Service would not help. I had to take the vacation not to lose the points. I did not talk to a supervisor, if you don't get anywhere ask to speak to one, hopefully the supervisor will help.
Good Luck!

I'm so sorry about your Step-mom, and that MS was not helpful. I'm thinking, as you suggested. Thanks for your helpful comments and suggestions.

Well - I did call on Tuesday, and the person I spoke to was very compassionate and helpful. We were able to bank most of our points. When we are able to travel again, we'll look forward to visiting our "laughin' place," as we've been doing since long before we joined DVC in 1992. It's been terrific for our family, as I'm sure it will be for yours. Thanks to all of you.

P.S. OK, Disneyphiles: Does anybody recognize "Sanders?"

So glad this is working out for you. I modified a reservation recently for a trip in 2 weeks, and ended up with 50 points in a holding account. Like you I'm a long time member but I don't meet the 50 post requirement. I guess I'll try David's service and see if I can get something for the points before they expire in September.

Glad to it worked out and that you were able to save most of your points for another trip!

Sanders reminds me of the name above Pooh's house. Though Pooh is technically not Disney, but A.A. Milne. Hmmm...
