As Deb & Bill said, they are informational meetings.
Upon arrival DW and I each received a pin. They also had bottled water available.
I'd say about 100 members were in attendance on that particular day. A
DVC sales staff member runs the meeting and works from a PowerPoint presentation. They covered quite a few topics including the demographic makeup of DVC, trade options, member perks and even upcoming happenings at WDW. When we attended last December, they spoke quite a bit about the 50th anniv celebration, and it included info I had not seen / heard elsewhere at the time.
Of course there is a minor sales pitch for adding on points. Not a big deal; easy to ignore if you aren't interested.
During the meeting they asked a number of questions of the group. Those answering correctly were rewarded with other little prizes--things like travel alarm clocks and ice scrapers.
The venue is very nice--the theater at SSR. I would imaging people were socializing a bit more before the meeting started. We arrived just as the meeting began, so we merely chatted with those seated around us in the theater.
The presentation lasted exactly an hour. At the conclusion we were all given directions to walk over to the model rooms at SSR (along with static-cling window stickers that read "DVC Member.") I'd say half of the people in attendance did make the trek over there. It is no more than 5 minutes away from the meeting site on foot.
I know the time and location aren't the best for some people, but we found it well worth our time. I'd highly recommend it to anyone staying at SSR or anyone who has not yet found an excuse to check-out the new resort.
