Has anyone used their points to trade into the World Passport Collection?
I am curious to know which places are worth the exchange and how easy does it work? I am a new member and was discuraged by DVC not offering the Harborside at the Atlantis anymore. Any information on this will be greatly appreciated.

A number of the resorts on the exchange list are on par with DVC if you take the resorts away from WDW. A number also are not quite up to that standard. DVC must lower the standards a certain amount to get enough resorts to cover the locations available through II. I'd guess that maybe 40-50 II resorts on the DVC list are somewhat comparable in quality but it depends on how you define comparable. There are a few things to remember. What is a great resort for one is not for another. Some may be great for kids, others for teens or adults only. Someone who likes the beach will want a different type of resort than one who prefers hiking. The unit size may also affect the choices. Some places have great 2 BR unit and a lot of them. Others have few if any 2 BR units. Some places have great studios that are almost equivilent to a 1 BR, at others they are only a hotel room without any kitchenette at all. At some resorts the exchangers are not treated the same as members, at others they are treated like a guest of the owner. Actually DVC falls into the class that doesn't treat exchangers very well.

So when you start to narrow down your choices, make sure you find out about the specific resorts and what will work for you so there are no surprises. Don't just assume it's on the DVC list and it will be OK.

Unless I'm reading my 2002-2003 Member Guidebook wrong, Harborside Resort at Atlantis is still available as part of the World Passport Collection (reference pg. 152).

Thanks for the input. It is still llisted in the guidebook, but I called to make a reservation there and i was told that it is no longer being offered.
Has anyone had trouble making an exchange, or is this DVC for DW only!!!

The resort is undergoing an extensive rentovation where the entire resort is closed for several months. While there is speculation as to what might be going on, the party line is that there was some accumulative minor damage associated with the hurricaines and the like. Rumors increase the issue to more structural damage. My guess is that they're not taking exchanges there now but will in the future. I can't see any reason they wouldn't as it's a top notch place overall and the only one left in the area for II that's worth exchanging for DVC. It was a difficult exchange before but it will really be difficult for a few years now.
