Does anyone know if or when members discounts have been offered in the past for DVC units.

We are going in November, staying in 2BR. We were going to move on to the Poly on Friday night to save on points, but now I'm thinking of staying for a night with a cash ressie if we can get a member discount.

Anyone know about how far in advance they come out? Also, would I check mousesavers for this, check these boards or just keep calling DVC occassionally.

Thanks for any info. :D

Going down with 14 for Thanksgiving Week.

On 12/26/2003 completed ressie on 2Br + Stu + Stu then on 1/21/2004 made ressie for Cash on Friday 11/26/2004 with no problem at all. I'd try as soon a possible.

Good Luck

I was able to make the ressie for November, but I'm wondering what the history is on when member discounts come out. CM on the phone said they are not available yet & didn't know when they come out.

I'm not sure if there is an "Official Date" if so, This is my first time using the Member discount. I guess you and I got lucky with our Members Discount Ressies.

I'm not sure if there is an "Official Date" if so, This is my first time using the Member discount this far out. Once I called a week before check in and the date was available (because I wanted to extend a day).

I guess you and I got lucky with our Members Discount Ressies.

We used a Member's Discount cash for our first night (a Saturday) just this past February at HHI. It was available to us when I first made ressies, 7 months in advance. I think I remember it was $112.75 for 1 night in a 1 BR. It seems there was a special going on for 2 BRs, but this way we didn't have to change rooms before our points reservation.

I booked a one bedroom at bcv for this july and got a member discount of $216.75 a night vs. the rack rate of $390 a night. It worked out cheaper then renting the points for the stay. I checked the ap rates today and my member discounted rate is cheaper then the ap rate for a one bedroom at oky.

you can only get a dvc member discount through member services, and I would say that nov. should be available now. I booked my july rate in sept or oct.

I talked to MS today & the CM told me there were no member discounts available.

Unless, of course, they are already gone. I'm going to keep calling. In fact, I may call tomorrow.

It is wise to check both. In Feb AP saved me $40 over member discount.

The discounts come and go , and I am not aware of them following any pattern. I had called the end of aug. for the member discount rooms and they were not out yet, but it was end of sept I believe that I gave a call and there it was. I would ask member services , if they were out previously and sold out, or if and when they would encourage you to call.

Maybe someone else out there knows the ins and outs of member discount availability.

Are you using points for any other weekend night that MIGHT be available at the discount (and you can move your points around)? For example, one of the previous weekend nights or Saturday? ie, on our recent trip, Friday night was available at Member's discount at both OKW and VWL, but Saturday wasn't available at either.

We're moving to OKW from YC on Sunday & were going to move out on Friday just to save on the weekend points.

I never even thought about an AP rate. I am going to have to call again tomorrow and check on everything.

Thanks for everyone's input. :D

They will only offer the 25% member discount if they anticipate the room will not be booked for points, it comes from the points inventory of rooms. I'm not sure who makes the call but it's based on availability for the night in question and probably historical patterns of points reservations. MS main priority is to have rooms available for points reservations.

sitchu2 - I thought the member discount through member services is supposed to be a flat 25% off. You got a great deal.

I have an AP rate of 30% off for an OKW 1 bedroom on Friday night.

I was told (or I read somewhere) that the DVC cash discount was 25% of the rack rate and was available any time, provided there was cash rooms available. However, it sounds like some of you are getting member discounts below the 25%. Does anyone know if there is a set DVC member discount for cash, or was my understanding way off here?

We've used the member discount for VB stays a number of times. When we've received it, it has always been 25% off the rack rate for the room. I don't believe that the member discount rooms come from the cash inventory. You book these rooms with Member Services, not CRO. I think availability depends on the reservation pattern expected at the time you request it. We booked 4 nights cash at VB at the eleven month window, the same time as we booked our points stay at our home resort, BWV. This is for a stay in early June, so the reservation was made in July of last year. The first night at VB (a Friday) was not available at the member discount, so we are paying rack rate. The next three nights were available, so I booked them at the 25% discount. Since this was so far in advance, I assume MS uses some historical reservation information to determine whether to offer a discount so far in advance. Just yesterday, I called MS to see about a possible discount for the first cash night. It is not available at the 25% discount because the ocean view inn rooms are all booked for that night. I also called CRO to see about an AP discount at VB for the same period. This was announced in the latest Mickey Monitor that is sent to AP holders and that I received yesterday. They had studios but no ocean view inn rooms either, so I'm keeping my current reservation.

i booked a cash room (studio) for christmas this year $300 plus tax:eek: i booked it and then i asked about a cash room (studio) for new years no discount $400, did not book:confused:

i am actually going to wait for the ap or dv codes and then see what to do, i know i had stayed at the bc in aug for $179 a night.

I have heard of member discounts being up to 40% at times, but typically 25%.

Called MS today & the CM told me that for my date there wasn't a member discount available for a 2BR - there were 1BR & studios available. She said that they only "set aside" so many & then see how reservations go before deciding if they will release any more.

I also asked about booking with points or cash in October for a trip with DH at the BWV or BCV & all she could do was piece things together here & there. Nothing with 4 consecutive days around the time I wanted it in a studio for either points or cash - at least that's what she said. Odd, because last year I had no problem.

Oh well. I think I'll look into the YC, GF or Poly & hope for an AP discount if we decide to take a trip together.

I was successful getting the 25% member discount on our 2BR for our weekend nights for our Veterans' Day visit. No disocunted rooms were available when I made the ressies 11 months out, but as I called back over the months, Member discounted cash rates became available for me in I think February. The CM I was asking at MS seemed surprised that discounts were available that far out (as I recall it was 9.5 months out), but we booked them and put my points back into my usable inventory (Yay! more points to use!).

So if they are all out of member discounts at this point for November, it's partly bcs of me :teeth:

We have used the AP discount rate to stay in our DVC room for the weekend and it came out to be cheaper than the member discount. Sorry to hear about no 2 bedrooms available for member discount, but maybe on the AP discount (when they come out) there will be something and then you could stay in your same villa.

Good luck!
