Just read my newsletter (email version) and apparently we are having "member day" every Tuesday this summer. This includes a dedication ceremoney and a cookout - which sounded nice but after a second read it smells like a sales opportunity. Not that its a hard sell - but if they are trying to get us to congregate in one area (the events include model room tours) to try to get us to buy more points, you'd think that they might not charge for the hamburgers and hotdogs! Am I crazy here?

They have been having member days every Tuesday for years. I don't see anything new with this situation.

We're new members so its just new to us. Is it indeed a sales thing? Not trying to paint a bad picture of the sales staff or practices - its definitely not the hard sell of traditional time shares - but even if this is a sales op Disney style I don't know that I would want to give up an evening.

Um, this is not the little member meetings that they have on Tuesday/Thursday at certain resorts. It IS a new thing.

I don't know that there are lot of hard facts out there at this point. I will be checking with the DVC resort front desks for a list of planned activities. I got the same sort of sales pitch feeling, but perhaps there will be some additional info and a token gift or prize or something, too.

Regardless ol what kind of meeting it is, attending is not mandatory...if you think it sounds fishy, skip it.

I'm just wondering if we can show up at any point, or if you have to be at the BW portion at 5:30 SHARP (as it states) to be included. Just wondering if you can just go to the Dunes Cove portion if that suits your schedule better.

They actually did have some lovely Member get-togethers in the earlier years of DVC over at OKW. They'd have drinks, appetizers, etc., it was very nice. They were discontinued once the membership grew.

While the current "Member Day" (ie: wear DVC grab to spot your fellow members) is a nice thought, it doesn't compare to what once was.

I'm really looking forward to attending this newly reincarnated Member Meet in July. I'm not concerned about it being used as a sales tool. It's never been my experience that they hard sell (even when we were a captive audience on the Member Cruise. ;) )
