I just tried to book a 2 bedroom at Old Key West for one week starting July 23rd. We have no points left so I was looking for a member cash discount. I was told there was nothing available with the discount but I could just book at rack rate. BUT, the CM also told me that occasionally additional member room discounts open up and I should keep calling back. I need to go to WDW because I am helping my sister move in for the WDW College Program, so I am not flexible with my dates and I really need to get something booked since this is peak travel time. I am just wondering if maybe I should call my guide and see if there is anything she can do or if I should keep calling back day by day to see if any discounts open up. I am really torn!

I don't see what a guide could do unless you are thinking of doing an add on to get more points. :)

Rooms are only made available to members to book for cash (with or without the 25% discount) if DVC has reason to believe that not all the rooms in member inventory will be needed for points. DVC has some type of formula which is probably based on historical data and current trends.

My advice is to either rent the additonal points you need, book through CRO, or make a back up reservation somewhere else.

Best wishes -

I would book rack rate through MS now & keep calling. I have had member cash rates suddenly become available the closer I got.

At least this way you know you have a room.

Are CPers entitled to Friends & Family/CM rates? Might be worth asking.

The only problem is that she isn't officially a CM until we move her in so she can't make us reservations until then. But yes she will be eligible for 40-50% room discounts, that will be nice!

I called back today and made three reservations! I hope we don't have to move rooms! We got 3 nights with our points, 4 nights with a member cash discount and 5 nights with a AAA rate. The 4 nights with the cash dicount just opened up today since they weren't available yesterday so I guess it does help to call back. The AAA rate is only 10% off as opposed to the 25% member discount so I'll keep calling back and trying to get all the nights I need with the member discount. I feel better knowing that I am booked though! :cool1:

I just wanted to update this...
It took me about 2 weeks, but I now have all my days I needed with the cash discount. I called every morning and slowly each night became available. I just booked them as they were available even though they were in the middle of my stay and eventually I got all the nights! So it does help to call back, they do release more inventory for the cash discount!

Glad it all worked out for you! pixiedust:

If you had MS link your ressies (if you didn't just call them back, they'll take care of it) I wouldn't worry about having to move. Just remind them at check in & double check about staying in same room.

Good luck to your CPer!

I made the part of our reservation that is on points right away and then I did the cash nights over the past week or so. So maybe I should call them back and make sure everything is linked. It turns out we are going to be staying for 14 nights (yeah!) so I want to make sure we can just move into our room when we get there, not have to worry about switching. Thanks for the tip!

14 nights! I am sooo jealous! That's great!

We have had mixed ressies (cash & pts) linked before & so far... knock on wood...

I know a few people who have done the CP & they all say it was a fabulous experience & can't wait til they can go back. Hope your DSis enjoys too!

Hi! My niece has applied for the Career Program (similar to the other CP I guess, but she is just graduating high school and hasn't started college yet.) I don't know when she would need to be at WDW, do you know if they all have to be there at the same time? I thought (not sure tho) the info said sometime in August, but no specific date. DH & I have our anniversary trip planned, in stone, for Aug 20 thru Sept 2, so I was wondering if she would be able to ride down with us, or need to go sooner.

Sorry, but I have no idea! I know my sister was given multiple choices of dates to start the program ranging from May to August. So I bet your niece chose a specific date.

Glad you got what you wanted - and thanks- this has reminded me I need to call tomorrow and try to get a night I'm missing.
