Mel's Unflashy June 2008 TR: Funnel cakes have fewer calories in FL. Updated 12/2!!

Mel, I finished reading your other TR last night. I'm so sorry you got soooo sick. I get sick every trip myself. The trip in '06 I lost my voice first thing and then Mission Space did something to me. It took me a couple of months before my body felt right again.

I was so glad to see you found your WL pins in the end too!:banana:

Can't wait for more on this trip. :D

After our swim and showers we all got ready to head out again. I think Bob had a short snooze in the bedroom while the boys and I watched tv. He was really tired from the night before. I slept like the dead, till 5 am when the alarm went off anyway. He didn’t I guess. :guilty:

We decided to take the bus from BWV over to the MK. Our plans were separate from the boys but we needed to get to the first destination together. The bus was a LONG wait, in the heat, again. The refreshing change about it this time was that it was empty and the a/c was CRANKING! I’m pretty sure it was around 5:30 or 5:45 pm by this time. The family departed the bus at the station in front of MK. The masses were coming TOWARDS the buses. That was good for the boys because they planned on heading in to the park for some solo fun! We hopped onto the bus bound for the Wilderness Lodge. It was empty. Seriously, we were the ONLY ones on it. Our driver was hilarious. She said she’d sing for us if we wanted. We didn’t. The offer was nice though. :) She had us at the bus stop at WL in record time. That was good because our ADR at Artist Point was for 6:10 pm. I think it was after this time when we ran up to the host at the restaurant. He greeted us, asked our names and if we’d been there before. We said, “No.” Then I asked him if he knew if Janet’s mom was working? He said, “No. She’s not here tonight. She’s our resident Bingo Queen!!” LOL.... Sorry Janet. It worked out ok because Izzi came to our table instead. He was a total pistol! He has the most UNBELIEVABLE personality. Totally on, totally into his job! :thumbsup2

I had emailed ahead of our trip that we had food allergies and we were planning on eating at A.P. Someone from Disney called me at home and assured me that he was contacting the chef’s from the places we planned to eat. This is why I love Disney. This is why I bought DVC. This is why I go to Disney SO much. Their attention to detail is amazing! The chef came out to the table. His name was Anthony. And he was a FOX...delicious....oh, I mean....he was very professional. ::yes:: He didn’t come out and say, “So, what are you allergic to? (milk)” “Ok, here’s what you can have.” He said, “Tell me what you want and I will MAKE it JUST for you....” Oh my. First, Izzi brought out our drinks. I tried a Reisling (sweet white wine and a fave of mine) Bob had a Glenfiddich on the rocks. While we enjoyed this, Izzi went over the appetizers with us. We decided on the Venison Spring Rolls. They were AMAZING. Yummy! It came with a sweet, soy-type dipping sauce that I wanted to lick the bowl of.... Sadly, I didn't take a single picture of our food. :sad2: I swiped this one from Photobucket. Bob had the smoky portobello soup.
P1010287_287.jpg

It was the most delicious thing he’d ever eaten, he said. I skipped this in favor of the bread. It was all warm and crusty on the outside but soft enough inside to roll into little balls...not that I did that..... And Izzi brought me a dish of olive oil with fresh herbs because he knew I couldn’t have the butter. So sweet.

Our main courses arrived and they were so beautiful it was a shame to dig in. But, we did! I had the scallops, seared with fennel and fingerling potatoes. Around the plate were these roasted cherry tomatoes that were so sweet. My mouth is watering just thinking of it. Bob had a filet that was cooked to perfection. His plate included a roasted garlic potato cake and spinach. When we finished dinner, I was sitting there thinking. “That was WAY too much food.” I actually felt a little sick. NOT FROM THE FOOD. Just that same overloaded feeling that I had at Sticky Fingers. So, I excused myself from the table and took a spin around outside near the pool. Bob was just sitting enjoying another scotch anyway... He really didn’t mind. Poor Izzi was concerned but Bob told him that I’d been on WW and my tummy wasn’t ready for BIG dinner. I felt great after about 10 minutes. We skipped desert and I decided to give Bob a quick tour since when I was here last August as a guest, he wasn’t with me! :goodvibes

We walked down toward the water and pool. We watched for the geyser to go off, but it wasn’t time. While we walked, we decided to take the boat across the lake to get meet the boys at MK. It was twilight by this time and just beautiful on the lake. I actually enjoyed the boat ride very much! It’s different riding the boats when you don’t HAVE to get somewhere on time... :wizard:

We entered the park just before the parade was due to start (Spectromagic) We called SD’s cell phone and he said they were waiting to ride BTMRR. We told them we were going to stake out our “usual fireworks spot.” They said they’d get over to us when they were done. WELL, I don’t know why this didn’t occur to me. HOW are they going to get to us in our “usual spot” if they can’t cross during the parade??? :eek:
This is our usual spot. It’s on the covered eating area near the Tomorrowland Noodle Terrace. Usually a GREAT spot. :confused3
MKmap2.jpg

Well, tonight it’s PACKED. And I do mean packed. Every table is taken. You can’t sit back more than one or two tables from the railing and still see the fireworks, though I suspect that most of the people anxiously hoarding tables don’t realize that. The pavilion covering prevents you from looking up! We grabbed a table near our spot and waited to hear from the boys. After a while, I realized about the parade so I told them to find a CM and ask them to help them cross before the parade started because their parents were on the other side. They didn’t respond though. Bob went looking for sodas for us. It was oppressively hot under that covering with 1000 of my new best friends. Here’s the awful part though. Everyone was eating noodles, egg rolls and assorted “asian cuisine” there. The smell was just horrific. I mean, I like that food. But not smelling it while 1000 people are chewing it up!!! Ewwww. :guilty:

When Bob returned I suggested a change of spot. There was an occasional breeze and the other side of the pavilion was cooler and not so smelly. The kids FINALLY got to us after the parade. Turns out they couldn’t even GET to a CM the crowds were so dense! They got to us just as the pre-teen girl at the table not a foot from us BLEW CHUNKS! Gross!!!!:sick: They ran out of there pretty quick and I swear about 10 different families tried to sit there. Every time I had to turn to them and say, “Uh, there’s barf there.” And then they’d get this funny look and scamper away. I told Bob they probably thought we barfed and then just sat there. :scared1: We were only there for about 10 mins after it happened (which was also the middle of the fireworks show! DOH!) and then we just couldn’t hack it anymore and left. It was totally gross. The kids wanted to get on Space Mtn. again so we went and got into the standby line. It was only about a 20 min wait. As soon as we got upstairs to where you get in the cars, I was like, “I don’t like this ride, what am I doing???” :lmao: So, I just jumped in the “chicken line” and it sends you to the room where you get OFF the little cars. I always wondered where the people who always seem to be sitting there came from! :confused: Now I was one of them! The boys had a great time. When they were done, we decided to exit the park. The kids were beat and it was closing time. We walked through the stores to exit like we always do. It’s cooler and less crowded.:thumbsup2

I think we had to wait for 2 buses to go back to BWV. OF course! And it was packed, nowhere to sit, and we were the last stop. Oh! I forgot the funniest part. Our driver went to the wrong resort!!! He drove all the way to AKL and then realized his mistake and had to drive ALL THE WAY back to Swan, then Dolphin, then BWV. STUPID! I was in no mood at this point. It made an already long, crowded bus ride worse. Thank goodness I was in Disney and not in a bad mood! :) We got everyone into bed at a sort of reasonable time. The boys watched Disney cartoons in bed while we laid about in our room and caught the news. Bob and I decided to sleep in and not set the alarm!

By the way, did you know that some lady from KY is stalking me on this trip? Really. She is.
The next installment SHOULD be Bob’s version of what happened at O’hana with SD. He promised. So, if it isn’t posted in a timely fashion (gosh it's already late, Bob!!!) you can blame him. Please send him the flames! ::yes::

Pssh! You be quiet Janet. :upsidedow

Yickes! I've missed 2 installments!!

I love the sound of that Train Tour - I know my Evan will love it! Can't wait to take him! :lovestruc Poor Gus - good thing you're a good momma and got him his funnel cake to make him feel better! :thumbsup2

Your TTA pics are darling! They grow so fast, don't they? :guilty:

I have a confession to make... I've never had a funnel cake OR an ITZAKADOOZIE - although I've seen them a million times at DLR. :rolleyes: I don't know about the whole fried dough thing... :confused:
Thanks, T! He's an easy kid to be a good momma to. He's so dang sweet.
OMG, T. I'm buying you one of the two, so you can say you at least had ONE of them!!!
ITZAKADOOZIE and Funnel Cakes in the same update! :worship: YUMMO!
Yes! This girl understands me.

I feel like I'm hijacking this thread a little. Sorry!

September is very hot, think 95 degrees each day with 100% humidity. At least that's how it feels! It really is in the 90's, but other than having to stand in the glaring sun waiting for the buses at POP, it's not bad in the parks. This is due to low crowds, so therefore you are not standing in line very long and can be inside where the A/C is! The longest we ever waited for a ride was 20 minutes. Of course we always make good use of fast passes. I would love to share more with you and if you have any specific questions, please PM me!

~Beka~
Couldn't have said it better myself, Beka. :thumbsup2

You are so sweet for reading the other TR! Mission Space did that to Bob too the first time. Now he won't ride....:sick:
The "more" is above!

Nice, and it sounds delicious! :goodvibes

Sorry about the spot not being spot on. :rotfl:
Holy CARP CE! Were you WAITING for me??? You posted so fast~ :lmao:

````````````````````
I've decided that either Jo has to wake up at 3 am her time, or I need to stay up all night typing so that it's posted when she's awake! It's so busy here during the day that I never get time to sit and type till the kids are downstairs for the night or in bed! Sorry Jo!
Bob's update should be tomorrow....unless he's too hurt from his "surgery."
I can't share what it is, but it involves Bob and parts he's sensitive about.
:rolleyes1
MEL
Alright, what's Bob's email address? :rotfl:
Loved the update, well... except for the blowing chunks part. Ick!:scared1:
It sounds like a wonderful dinner. If we truly make it back for my dream Christmas trip I'm so taking advantage of the clubs. DS will be 12 and I think that's the maximum age for that. I think they can chill there for one evening while mom and dad have a decent dinner without the kids.
Oooh, that just reminded me that my dad is coming up on Saturday so DH and I can go out. :banana:
I like that you got to show Bob around the WL like tour guide Barbie. ;) You didn't bring any of that wonderful dinner back up did you? Hopefully the walk was enough to help it start to digest a little quicker.
Were you just too embarrassed to take a pic of your dinner in such a nice restaurant? DH always makes fun of me if I take a picture of my dinner so I figure that other people are laughing at me too. Is there a place you wouldn't take a pic. Maybe Victoria and Albert's? That would be one I would want a pic of the most!
I'm chatty and tired. Good night.
Get busy Bob!:D
The managers know that they can't schedule her on certain nights becasue of Bingo..:rotfl2:
Bob had the smoky portobello soup.
The "more" is above!
Really? Did it take him two months to start having visits from Philameana (Hey G-Luv) again??? :rotfl: Sorry, TMI. I know. :lmao:
We're going to do AP for Chrismas dinner probly. YAY us!
I don't *do* barf...not even from my own kid.
I also don't *do* food smells.
Poor you and your bus rides. Geez...didn't they know Princess Mel was on board???
Hi to Linnie! Glad to see you here!:flower3: Missed you guys. I can't believe so many people have never had a funnel cake! That's just tragic.
Mel, sounds like you had a really nice dinner at WL. You can't beat a good reisling, no matter what it's paired with. Even a Lean Cuisine when you're desperate. I know it was gross, but your description of the Noodle Station and then the sick girl was just too funny! It really takes away the desire for a funnel cake, though, doesn't it?
I've heard that a bag of frozen peas are just the thing, as the peas are small and can settle in where they need to be. :rolleyes1
Okay, this is hilarious because my DH and I were just discussing this. In fact, he just made his appointment yesterday after the big scare I had a few weeks back! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: We have to wait another month though!
Dude, barf at Disney is just wrong. :scared:
You need to have Bob chat with my DH - about that surgery that we're not supposed to be talking about. :rolleyes1
No freakin' way. Hi Lin!
How's Mr. Buzz?! I miss you guys....:angel:
But, I don't miss *someone else*. Glad you came
by to read my TR! Yes, you are missing out if
you haven't had a funnel cake!
Hi!! Buzz is good-same as always and still on Global Ignore.
We miss you too! Maybe someday Buzz'll be let out of his time out.
Gee, who would that be that you don't miss!! Hmmm, I think I know!! ;)
Hey Linnie, how are you guys doing?
Doing good! Thanks for asking!! :cloud9:
:goodvibes Hi Linnie!
Hi there!! :yay:
Hi to Linnie! Glad to see you here!:flower3: Missed you guys. I can't believe so many people have never had a funnel cake! That's just tragic.
It is tragic isn't it! I'm going to have one in October for sure!! :banana:
Oh, the bus going to the wrong resort would be frustrating!! My DS wouldn't like that at all. Instead of being a Moan Boy, he'd be a Screaming Boy. I hope that never happens to us. :confused: I had to take DS to the dr for pink eye not too long ago and everyone let us go ahead of them. It was not pretty. He was a mess, screaming and upset. Yep, autism is fun!! :hippie:
The dinner sounded divine. As did the boat ride. Could have done without the chunk blowing. What a way to end a lovely evening!:headache:
Our niece's DH said any frozen vegies felt good after his delicate operation. He told my DH all about it. So Doug says no way, not ever. Thanks DNephew-n-law.
Give Bob my Best Wishes and DH's sympathy.
I've decided that either Jo has to wake up at 3 am her time, or I need to stay up all night typing so that it's posted when she's awake! It's so busy here during the day that I never get time to sit and type till the kids are downstairs for the night or in bed! Sorry Jo!
Well that's just not good enough :snooty: J/K :rotfl2:
What a pity you missed Janet's Mum but the food sounded delicious :goodvibes
The girl being sick is just gross, I hate sick too :scared: Oh and I didn't realise Space M had a chicken exit!
Okay, this is hilarious because my DH and I were just discussing this. In fact, he just made his appointment yesterday after the big scare I had a few weeks back! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: We have to wait another month though!
I don't know this from household experience, but I have several friends who haven't been afraid to share. ;)
I just found you this a.m. and I am so happy, because you are HILARIOUS!
I LOVE your picture swiping ~ that is so funny, the comments about the preachers at the hotel, and the comparison pictures of your boys on the TTA are just so sweet.
I also relate to the name change, that is something that my son would want me to do. And I must say I do think the name SD rocks.
I cannot wait to read the rest of this:rotfl:
Our driver was hilarious. She said she’d sing for us if we wanted. We didn’t.
:lmao:
Then I asked him if he knew if Janet’s mom was working? He said, “No. She’s not here tonight. She’s our resident Bingo Queen!!”
Oh no! You missed out. :guilty:
The chef came out to the table. His name was Anthony. And he
was a FOX
Note to self: fudge food allergies and make ADR at AP STAT!
Bob had a Glenfiddich on the rocks.
Bob has good taste! :thumbsup2
They got to us just as the pre-teen girl at the table not a foot from us BLEW CHUNKS! Gross!!!!:sick:
Noooo! :scared:
I always wondered where the people who always seem to be sitting there came from! :confused:
LOL, me too!
Dude, barf at Disney is just wrong. :scared:
:rolleyes1 I'm not saying a single word. ;)
This is a little strange but a bag of peas is also very useful for acne. Whenever I get a bad break out (and remember to do this instead of picking at it) I put my bag of peas on the break out for 5 mins. It takes the swelling down and the redness away.
Sorry for the hijack, but the peas trick for acne is really good.
