was really good!!!

she has a friend or two in 5 of her 7 classes....found her way around with no problems, likes all her teachers, only issue was lunch, took a long time to get through the lines....she came out with a big smile on her face!!!

thanks for everyone keeping her in your thoughts today!

:woohoo::woohoo: Great to hear she enjoyed her first day and has friends in most of her classes. Lunch line should get better as the kids learn the process. I know here that the first week or so of lunches is the hardest but it seems to smooth out as they get used to the new system.

sounds like a great start for Middle School! :thumbsup2

Cassey, that's what I told her too about the lunches...most of the kids had forgotten their #'s over summer and really held up the line I guess.

tonight when she went to bed she said that middle school isn't that hard to figure out....got to love my little worry wart, always thinks the worst and always comes out ok.

DS(11) was worried about starting senior school but he came out on the first day very happy - he's not so keen on the stricter discipline (keeping his tie done up and over his top button is a bit of an issue at the moment!) but is much happier than he was last week:goodvibes I was a nervous wreck!!

His school has "cashless catering" - you pay upfront online, or give them cash to put in a machine, but when they go to buy lunch they just scan a thumbprint and the money is deducted from their account! So no worrying about change, or sending in cheques to school, plus I can get a precise readout of what he's purchased each day and advise him on choices and managing his money:thumbsup2

So glad to hear it. Morgan complains about the lunch lines all the time. She barely buys anymore, because by the time she gets her lunch, it's almost over. It never seems to get better here.

Glad she had a great day!!!

The kids complain about the same issue here Jennifer...go through the line and have NO time to eat.... so my kids (1 MS - 2 HS) take their lunches... It's actually cheaper for me to send their lunches.. it was 50 a week for the 3 kids to eat.... for 30 I can feed them for 2 weeks!!!

Mazda happy he had a good first day too!

the kids use their ID # to type into their on-line accts here too.
Megan took her lunch today and probably for a little bit to see if the lines get better, with only 20 min they don't get a lot of time to eat.
another thing I don't like is they can't bring water bottles to classes, understand they don't want the mess, but the kids need to stay hydrated during class to.

Mazda, glad to hear your DS had a good first day. Starting a new school is always nerve wracking, for both student and parents.

Lisa, we are allowed water bottles only in the classrooms. Many parents have complained over the years about the kids being hydrated so they conceded to water only. Julia takes a bottle with her everyday.

I wish she would bring lunch, it would be less expensive and I could feed her better. Today she said it was mystery meat....ewwww. She ate from the salad bar.

I only have one, so it's not so bad, but still, I can feed her better for less if she brings.

She carries a water bottle all day. I can't imagine them not allowing them to have a bottle of water...

eeeww hate the mystery meat..

I don't understand it....maybe need to ask about it when we have back to school night next week....after all its just water, its not going to stain :confused3

As a high school teacher some very unintelligent students have spoiled it for most of the kids. Every now and then a student will bring alcohol in their water bottle and then administration will crack down.

The other thing I don't understand about them is I don't remember needing a water bottle when I was in school way back in the stone age.

We just had water fountains at school too! Mind you, back then nobody would BUY water unless they wanted Perrier or something fancy:rolleyes1

My sister sends hers with plenty of fod, but if they eat it all by lunchtime they can buy something to keep them going, like an apple (or more likely slice of pizza;))
