Meeting the Minions

So DD (11) says her "life dream" is to meet the minions. Our friend who is also a travel agent just returned from Universal, and it took her 2 full days of searching for them, asking various CMs (or whatever their Universal term is) where they'd be, checking the ride exit, etc. to finally find them and get a picture. We'll be going to Universal for one day in November.

When and where were you able to get photos with the minions? I want to maximize our chances of seeing them and getting a photo!

Uh... the minions have a party about every 4 minutes in the exit of the ride before they have to go 'back to work' for Gru. They don't have minions during early park admission, the first hour of the day, or after scheduled park close. Other than that your chances are pretty good at seeing at least one minion there.
Also, if you like the human minions (not in the plush suit) I'd suggest hanging around the front of Gru's house about 2pm for the dance break. It's cute and you can also meet Gru and sometimes Vector or even the girls depending on how busy it is.
There is also a mini show on Hollywood using the minion float from the parade where you might get to meet a minion (but more likely Gru or the girls or the human minions).

Also...with the sequel out next week be on the lookout for maybe seeing some of the 'evil' purple minions. I've heard they might show up to promote the new movie...

they have an "audience participation" period also......


pick up the park guide map when you enter the park.
should have some information about the minionions there.



you'll also see them in the afternoon parade.



i'm wondering how a TA could not have noticed them in the park.

Thanks for the info! I'm glad to hear they're around. My friend did say they went to the ride first thing in the morning, so that's probably why she missed them there! And one other time they saw one, they got beat out by a Brazilian tour group so they didn't get to the front of the line before the minion left.

Got to dance with minions upon exiting the park. The whole cast has like a block party dance with vector gru and the kids. Vector came over and got me to dance with him a little bit. I'm not sure of the time for this though.

If you just hang out in the Despicable Me Merchandise shop you'll be there when the show dumps and you can get in there to take a photo. I've met several:

There is a superstar breakfast with characters from the parade which includes minions. There is also now a character breakfast at the Royal Pacific.

I can confirm from this weekend that they don't appear in the first hour of park operation. I met Stuart this time dancing after Minion Mayhem. Last year they had 3 out.

They'll definitely take pictures - when we were there that's pretty much all they did. But when Gru tells them to get back to work, back to work they go (i.e. they go to the backstage area) even if there are still kids waiting for pictures. So if you miss them, stick around 5 minutes and grab a picture when they come back out. And in the interest of courtesy to the others waiting, take your pictures quickly.

Every single time I have ever ridden Despicable Me they are at the ride exit. Several of them.

All you have to do is walk into the gift shop and go over to the ride exit and there they are. Dancing.
