My niece is autistic and has anxiety issues as well. The characters have always been really great with her. They can sense her excitement but also her fear and do their best to get her to interact with them. My favorite was when Chip N Dale had her dancing with them in Frontierland.
This is a really helpful post! I had just started worrying about this for my trip next week and like magic, this post appeared Thanks to everyone who's shared their thoughts!
DD15 is very shy and told me recently that character meals are stressful for her as she's always watching for and waiting for the next character to approach. DS13 is the opposite - very social, outgoing, and never has an uncomfortable moment. Odd that the same parents can raise two children to be so different...
So I do not have issues with anxiety (plenty of other problems), but I started crying last week when I met Sally for the first time at DL. I had a terrible week at work and at the end of the week - I got to go to DL for the first time EVER and meet Sally and then later Jack and Sally . The Nightmare Before Christmas is absolutely my all time favorite Disney movie. Anyway, I was so overwhelmed / happy that I got emotional and started crying a bit. She was so awesome that I love her even more. She spent a lot of time talking to me and then went out of her way to make me have extra time with Jack later on in the day - and I could barely speak when I met him because I was so thrilled. He was great too by the way. All in all, I think that the characters clearly know how to interact with all types ! Enjoy and please feel confident that they will embrace your quirks.
