Meet The Garcia's....DL first timers!! **Update 7/22- 3 days updated and an ending!**

SO thanks to Disneyland_Mama's report of Goffy's and some unforeseen changes to our trip (the friend who was supposed to be coming the last day isnt coming anymore) i decided for my birthday I want to see some characters! The review of the food made me realize that was the place to go! 4 words: French Toast Creme Brule! DH nearly flipped his wig when I said those 4 beautiful words...so we have a 910am PS on Sat the 32rd for my bday, and I had them mark down the day too! Pixie Dust here I come!

Wow! I didn't know there was 32 days in June!! :lmao: :lmao:

I can't believe you are so close to your trip!! I am a week behind you. I have everything together but don't plan on packing until the night before. :wizard:

my fingers apparently type faster than my brain wants them too...therefore 32nd...lol I think we all know I meant 23rd.... oppsie :rolleyes1

So I was feeling crafty and decided to make my travel camera bag all Disney-ed out! We are taking just the small travel camera bag and a small backpack into the parks. DH thinks I'm silly for the LGMH's BUT he was excited when we met Dis-ers at Animal Kingdom! So here's the bags so far....

Can U even see the one on the Mickey bag itself? I'm not sure I like it. I am also thinking I may do some kind of outline inside the one on the camera bag to cover the stitching. The top of the camera bag is reserved for our "1st Trip" button!

6 days left...I need to get to the packin'!

Oooh, Kat!! I'm so excited for you! You're gonna love Goofy's Kitchen. I promise, it's to die for! :faint: Love the crafy bag and here's hoping you run into another Focker! :pixiedust:

Stop by the Main St. bakery and say Hi to my nephew, he's a barista there! ;)

Thats so cool I will do that!!!

Love the camera bag...you are only 3 days away after midnight tonight!!! :cool1:

I'm soooo excited!!!!!

2 days!!!!

I can't believe the time has actually passed! I have the suitcase all packed and most of the stuff for the carry ons are packed, even my Stitch Plush who's coming with too! I went to my last psychical therapy session today with orders on how to try and keep my back well while walking all day (hot towels on the lower back and good hamstring stretches). I have been cleaning the house all week and running errands. I have but a short list of things left to do and they are slowly being crossed off. Tonight I'm taking it easy, i got some sandwiches for dinner so i don't have to cook, and i plan to just make lists and relax. Tomorrow i'm sure will be another story lol. I ahve given orders to a few friends on how to feed the cat and when. I don't think the cat like the suitcase tho, he knows and seems pretty miffed at me.

Here's my baby,Bale

Most of the time he thinks hes a person. I miss that fuzzer when I';m away tho, i swear i wait for him to jump on me at night! He will be well taken care of my 2 friends and he'll be happier to see us when we return!
We have nothing concrete set for the weekend with friends, some driving around and relaxing. They are planning on taking me out somewhere for my birthday at some point and we are hooking up with a friend I haven't seen in years on Sunday for breakfast. But Monday morning we hop that bus to my own personal holy grail...the original house of mouse!

Any one have advice on these tours? TOURS . I'm thinking we may spent thursday doing something like that since its grad night at Disney. But if we do that then we may be in the parks on sat would we be nuts to do that?

So one more entry tomorrow and i'll be off!

I'm sure a back rub from a traveling companion would do wonders too.

Most of the time he thinks hes a person.

Don't they all, we have two that act the same way.

But Monday morning we hop that bus to my own personal holy grail...the original house of mouse!

We'll keep an eye out for you so I can get you in my next Disneyland Update.

Any one have advice on these tours?

Never taken one of the "Professional" tours, have spent a lot of time in the Hollywood area and it is really enjoyable. We usually start in the Kodak theater area and just walk around. Just be safe if you are there after the sun goes down.

But if we do that then we may be in the parks on sat would we be nuts to do that?

Not at all, the crowds will be a little bigger, but should be ok

Itinerary suggestion:
Hit Nemo early in the day, it is being very well received and it is not uncommon for it to have a 2-3 hour wait time.

Hey Kat,
Hope I caught you before you left, they just announced that Disneyland is going to be closed all next week for refurbishment. :rotfl:

Just kidding, but I did want to let you know that the temperatures look like they might be creeping up again, the local weather guys and gals are saying that it might be pushing mid 80's starting this weekend.

Hope you have a great trip spending time with your friends and then with Mickey and Minnie.

I am looking forward to reading your report.

Ha ha ha...I'd make 'em open just for us! LOL. I'm def not stressing the weather cause there ain't nuttin' u can do, right? lots of swimming will work out just fine for me!

So I made a couple of changes to our PS, this morning. It's so unlike me but it had to be done... new PS look like this:
Tuesday June 19th Blue Bayou Lunch 130pm (MK)
Wednesday June 20th Aloha Breakfast Paradise Pier Hotel @PCH Grill 1030am
Carnation Cafe 630pm (DTD)
Thursday June 21st Jazz Kitchen 900pm (MK)
Friday June 22nd Ariel’s grotto Lunch 210pm
Saturday June 23rd Goofy’s Kitchen (DL Hotel) 910am

The new plan is to find out what bus tours there are on thursday once we get to the hotel on mon evening. If there are day tours we would like to either LA or the Coast somewhere then we will be headed into the parks that night. If we like a night tour (there is one LA one i saw which is a possibility) then we may just visit DTD and relax that night and not go into the parks so we can use that day on thursday morning before the tour. Does that make sense??? If we do go on a tour at night we are going to take our shot with Jazz Kitchen Monday night since I really wanna eat there and the tour would overlap with the PS I made. get all that everyone?????

Anyways I had my mani/pedi today and got the dry cleaning...all I have to do it wait...which is sooooo much harder than having things to do!

Thanks all for going along with my silliness on this pre trippie... We'll be leaving Sunny California on Saturday Nigth June 23rd (Happy 3-1 Birthday to me!) and getting back to humid old NY on Sunday morning at around 6am... See ya then!!!!!

The new plan is to find out what bus tours there are on Thursday once we get to the hotel on Monday evening.

Hey Kat,
My brother-in-law used to work at one of the off-site hotels as a bellman and he would try to get the guest to book the bus tours and said that he used to always get full price for them, but that sometimes he would negotiate a lower price to get guest to book a tour. Had something to do with him getting less in commission.

The Tour company charged the hotel a certain price and any thing they got over that they got to keep. Not sure if it still works that way, but you may want to give it a try. Did that make sense?

I'm sorry I missed saying goodbye to you!! I hope you have a great time and can't wait to hear all about it when you get back! :thumbsup2

Hey Kat

We were at the park last night, didn't see you.

Hope you are having a great time.

Were the crowds unbelievable or what!!!

We're baaaaaaaack! We had a Lloong crazy week but all in all we had a blast! I will start my report tomorrow or tuesday when DH goes back to work... Missed u guys, can't wait to get back in the DIS of things!

Welcome back Kat,

Looking forward to hearing all about your trip. :cool1:

Day one: We arrive in Bakersfield, Ca. via Denver AND LA

So the day we left finally arrived! When we had gone on my surprise-DH-with Vegas for his Bday weekend we didn’t sleep before the early morning flight so I vowed to get even a few hours sleep. We got maybe 3 hours sleep and were up by 6am and out the door by 7am. DH was quite impressed that I actually got out of the house on time!!! First we flew to Denver, CO. We grabbed some Quiznos and Seattle’s Best Coffee in the airport during our 2 hour layover. We also checked out the crocs stand they had and I ALMOST got DH to get himself a pair of the flip flop kind. But almost only counts in hand grenades and horse shoes. Then we flew to LAX. We had an hour or so layover. All I can say about LAX is that it was impossible to get a cold soda from anywhere. I ended up with some weird Tropicana juice thing when all I really wanted was a coke! Then we were off to Bakersfield, Ca. Luckily all our flights were uneventful and I spent most of them reading my latest Laurell K Hamilton book.

If you recall we are visiting one of my oldest and closest friends, Dori and her new husband Fred. We had met Fred only briefly for dinner at Christmas time so getting to know him was great. They were waiting for us when we got to the airport. We had an hour drive to their house but we filled it with chatter. It was really good to see her again, esp. to see her in her new element. She’s been in Cali for almost 5 years now, first for school then because she just liked it. We ended up having In and Out Burger for dinner because everyone we know told us to go there. It was good but nothing to get all nutso about, IMO. For the 2 of us it cost like 10 bucks so that was a plus! We spent the rest of the night chatting and heading to bed early so we could head to the mountains early the next day.

Day two: Sequoia and Bubba’s BBQ

We got up at the crack of dawn (to us anyways) at around 6am. We handy bagels for breakfast that we had brought and were headed to the coolest grocery store ever, WinCo. We kept talking about it and how cheap it was. We live in an expensive area when it comes to supermarkets so this was crazy to us. We got some trail mix and some drinks to put in the cooler and were headed to Sequoia National Park. The drive was really nice and the scenery was something like I have never seen before.

Apparently Visalia is known for its Dairies. I had no idea.

We spent most of the afternoon driving around up there and doing a little bit of hiking. I had on flip flops because they assured me we wouldn’t do too much hiking so my feet were kinda dirty, as were my new Capri crocs. I was also informed that I am not thought of as the camping type. HMPH! Ok I’m a city girl and I accept that but I don’t need to be told it!! LOL! We went out to Bubba’s Bad to the Bone BBQ for dinner for my upcoming birthday. It was some tasty BBQ! We had some seriously good ribs and chicken. They even embarrassed me with one of those oh-so-annoying birthday songs. There was also a mechanical bull that DH ended up taking a spin on, so did Fred and he got what we later dubbed “bull burn” on his knees from wearing shorts on it! OUCH!
I had a picture on my phone that came out crappy. But suffice to say it was funny as heck watching these boys ride this thing! We spent the rest of the evening back at their house having a few drinks (some homemade strawberry vodka) and looking at old photo albums and having a merry old time!

Day Three: Swap Meet, Meeting an Old Friend and Shopping

We got up early again and went to something called a “swap meet”. I had no idea what we were in for. They called it “little mexico” and it was! It was like a big flea market type thing. Some new stuff some used, but al pretty cheap. DH needed some sunglasses and found some for 4 bucks. I got some headbands for a buck and Fred got a fishing pole for 20 bucks. We had a grand old time. If we lived there I would have taken advantage of the chilies and good fruits and stuff they had there. It was a neat experience. DH flipped out over the guy who had the booth with the swords and knives and things. He had these:Anyone a Final Fantasy Fan or Kingdom Hearts?

We then went to breakfast at The Black Bear Diner where we were meeting my old friend, Rob, who I hadn’t seen in close to 10 years. We had good food and nice conversation and the Rob was headed back on the road for a 4 hour drive. The 4 of us decided to check out the outlets in Visalia. We all bought something. I got a few new shirts and DH got a pair of jeans and a pair of shorts. We passed by a movie theater and as a joke I said “Movie?” and somehow we ended up going to see “Knocked Up”. It was a very funny movie. We went back to the house and ate our leftovers for dinner and played “Taboo” which was a hilarious time! We said our goodbyes to Dori since she would be off to work before we woke up the next day and headed to bed.

Here are their 2 dogs, who we fell in love with while we were there!

Next up… Disneyland or Bust…and we almost Busted!

Great start, Kat! Sounds like you had a great time seeing an old friend!:goodvibes

We have a few Winco's here and we love them...the only thing I hate is having to bag my own groceries. But you can't beat the prices.:thumbsup2

I can't wait to hear all about your Disneyland experience.

So we made it, with some slight direction issues, to the Bakersfield Greyhound station. We were there at about 1130 for the 1215 bus to LA with a transfer to the bus to Anaheim at 430. We planned to be at the Desert Inn by around 6 and out in the parks by 7… Greyhound thought differently. Apparently if you don’t put your suitcase where your body should be at the bus gate you don’t get on the line till the end and when u reach the bus driver there is only one seat left! Yep we missed that bus by ONE PERSON! Next bus? Not till 245. so our suitcase went to the gate, our bums went to some seats and pouted. The next snag was that there were no further connections to Anaheim and they were less than helpful as to what we should do. I am clueless about California so I thought MAYBE a cab from LA would cost the same as one from LAX?! We got on the 2nd bus with no issues (luckily for the driver whom I may have caused bodily harm to if he didn’t let me on the bus) and got to LAX at about 6pm. The people there told us to take a bus to Santa Ana and a cab from there would only be 10 minutes. That was the truth, thank god! The cab ride cost us $25 bucks and having to listen to a religious CD play the whole time, but we got there! We ended up getting to the hotel around 730, dropped off our stuff and headed to check out downtown Disney. After spending the day on buses or waiting for buses we made the choice to NOT take any bus tours that week at all, to just stay in Disney. So that meant we’d not use the park passes till the next day.

We strolled DTD. It has a very different feel to it than the one in Orlando. A cool vibe tho, lots of performers we enjoyed stopping and checking out. We really just wandered thru and didn’t go in anywhere. We check menus at a few places and they seemed a bit expensive knowing there were some of these expensive dinners in our future we headed to Denny’s. DH had never been to Denny’s before and we were happy to settle in with some breakfast specials and head back to our room. On the way up to the room we saw some of the Disney fireworks from the stairway in front of our room. When we finally settled into bed around 1130pm I realized there was a HUGE smushy spot on the mattress where I was trying to sleep! We tried flipping it around and it was still bad. For those of you who don’t know I have sciatica and a herniated disk in my lower back. I can not sleep on a lousy mattress. So I made DH sleep all the way over to the end of the king size mattress so I could sleep in the middle in the somewhat smushy part. It was just too late to complain and we planned to use our early entry the next day…so off to uncomphy dreamland we went.

Here are some pics of the room (room 301):

Other than the mattress thing, which you’ll find out the resolve for in the next entry, the Desert Inn & Suites was a nice place to stay. The little couch was comphy, as were the other chairs. The bathroom was roomy and the shower had great pressure. The pool was heated better than I had heard from other DISers and the spa was awesome. The only drawback for the pool was it was in a room inside and it echoed and when there were kids playing, which there often was. It was no Disney resort but it was very convenient to the parks. There’s a small gift shop and a locker room for luggage storage. We used the storage the last day while we were in the parks and it cost us only $2.00 for the day for 2 lockers. The staff was great and very helpful and friendly. If you stay there and are thirsty my advice is go to Denny’s (we did this nightly) and you get a large drink for about the price of one smaller drink from their drink machine.

Anyways...on to the stuff you all really wanna know about…THE DISNEY!!!!!
