Meds

I have recently been prescribed a liquid gel NSAID. I read the TSA site on medications (https://www.tsa.gov/blog/2014/09/05/tsa-travel-tips-traveling-medication) and it states that liquid meds are permitted in a reasonable quantity for the trip. I have no idea what reasonable quantity means, but my bottle is enough for a few months. It's the only bottle size I have and the way this is dispensed, the dosage is by number of pumps. I can't transfer it and even if I did, it would no longer be in the original container.

Anyone have experience with liquid medications they could share?

Also, I have TSA Pre-check. Assuming I can still use the pre-check line but just declare the medications. I don't really want to put it in checked luggage, even though I won't need it during my flight.

How many ounces are in the bottle? Since this is a medication that has been prescribed to you, you should have no issues. I think what they mean is if you bring one bottle through, that's not an issue. But it would be an issue if you brought 3 bottles and each bottle is enough to last months. They won't look at it and say "you are only going for one week so you can only take 10 days worth of the medication."

I would just put the med in a separate ziploc bag (whatever size is need), then pull it out with your 3-1-1 bag and declare it as medication. Just don’t put anything else in that bag. It shouldn’t be a problem.

Enjoy your cruise!

The bottle is only 3.8 oz, just over the limit. I don't usually have to take out my liquids since I have TSA Pre-check, but I'll do that for this one bottle. Sounds like I'll have little to be concerned with. Thanks.

Not only that, but should something happen where you are unable to speak, having those bottles - or at the very least the name of everything you are taking on a card - will help medical people know what your conditions are and help prevent any kind of drug interaction.

Also the prescription or bottle has the name of your doctor and specific details about the dosage in case you or anyone else needs to contact them or arrange for more. They definitely won't take your word for it or trust your memory.

Have the bottle in a ziploc and keep it in your carryon where you can quickly get at it to take it out. Ask the TSA person manning security check area "I have a bottle of medical liquids, do I need to take it out or can I keep it in my bag" and then follow what they tell you to do.

What usually happens to me with TSA PreCheck is they tell me to keep it IN my bag, and then once it has gone through x-ray most of the time (but not always) they will then do extra checks of that bag, usually swabbing the med liquids bottles (I have more than one) and sometimes my hands or other items. I ask them t o please use new gloves before handling the medical items and they always do. I budget extra time for this possibility.
