Mediterranean Resort possibly being planned next to Wilderness Lodge?

In the thread linked below, there was some discussion about the Wilderness Lodge expansion which is slated to begin construction this fall. One of the planning documents for the project was posted and it refers to "Mediterranean Hotel Resort" near the upper-left hand corner. After a quick search of DisBoards I didn't see any further discussion - so I decided to start a thread here to see if there is any new/additional information out there.

I know a Mediterranean resort was originally planned for the late 90's and they had even cleared the land across from where the Wilderness Lodge is on the edge of the Seven Seas Lagoon. I've always wanted to see them develop this piece of land for another resort. I'm not sure if they still feel like the land is too swampy to build on, but most likely they probably just don't want to spend the money it would take to create a new resort when their MO lately is converting existing stuff into DVC. That said, it's still interesting to see it on the docs for the Wilderness Lodge upgrades, and personally I hope they make it one day.

That was the plot that was planned for the Mediterranean resort. There were plans and concepts drawn up it just never happened. There were other resorts that were also planned that weren't built either. Plans never officially die with disney but I don't think they will be building this resort anytime soon unless it's DVC related.

I think, and I could be wrong, that reference is to a parcel of land or water swamp area. You see the world drive name underneath. It could've been named that decades ago, but the actual construction never came to fruition.

The mention of the Mediterranean Resort came up in the SFWMD permit application process for the VWL. The only reason it came up is because the alterations they plan to make to the grounds surrounding the current WL will impact and alter what was already discussed/granted for the proposed Med Resort years ago. Some of the current geo testing overlaps the studies previously done and some of the data are relevant to the current proposal. It came up for no other reason and I agree with rteetz that there will not be any Med Resort anytime soon, if ever.

Wondering here if the reference to a Mediterranean resort is for a *basin*or a section of land on the other side world drive. There seems to a *dot and Dash* boundary line there. The reference really having nothing to do with the additions to WL.

I hadn't seen the plans for the WL expansion so thanks for posting this. Am I seeing correctly that the beach and nature trail are going away? I hope that this resort doesn't lose that woodsy feeling.

As for the Mediterranean Resort maybe someday.

Yes a good amount of the beach will soon have DVC cottages.

I think I really hate this expansion. Taking away the nice beach and playground is terrible.

Well this has been discussed before. Ian wants to work for Disney but is not currently. Also his architectural style doesn't really fit what the Mediterranean resort would look like. the stuff he has done is very high end.
