I've decided to do the Medifast program and I have a couple of questions for those of you who are/were on it.

There is a coupon code for $50 off an order of $300 or more. There is also a VIP program that offers you two weeks of free food (according to their website). From what I've read it is cheaper to do the VIP program. Correct?

I did the Medifast program years ago for a couple of months through my local hospital. On their program you drank 5 shakes per day and no added leafy meals.

Are these the same shakes you get through the hospital based program? If I don't want to do the added meal every day, can I do that?

I figured the cost of the shakes to be around $300-$325 per month.

Anyone on thyroid meds doing this diet? Any advice?

Just wanted to stay that I am doing MF but I can't answer any of your questions:laughing:

I just reordered and used the August code for $50 off $275. I'm doing the traditional MF, 5 + 1, and know nothing about the VIP program or whether the shakes are the same as the hospital program...

See, I know very little ;) except this: I lost 20# in my first 6 weeks (the last two of which I cheated a bit), gained 3# back in the last two weeks because I took a hiatus from the program, and restarted today:cool1: I'm hoping to lose the 3# I gained plus another #17, and hopefully can do it again in 6 weeks!

Good luck!

I would read and see exactly how it works. Do YOU get to choose which items are reordered or do they?

I have been on MF for 3 weeks now. Lost 8 pounds so far. Thru trial and error, I know which foods I like and which ones I simply despise (oatmeal). I now have a pretty big supply (only planned on doing this for 2-3 months).

Just go to their website and read. OR there is an 800 number you can call to ask questions. I also do the 5 + 1.

Wow, 20 lbs. weight loss is great! :woohoo:

I found an ad in the September issue of Redbook. The website is MedifastBook.com (for anyone who is interested). There is a link to info on the VIP program. You get 2 free weeks of food (35 meals), free shipping and 5% off of all orders.

I just wanted to know what is included in the free food offer. I guess I will call and find out.

How is the food? I've only tried the chicken soup and chocolate and vanilla shakes.

Did you order the variety package?

I had tried NutriSystem last year and found the food disgusting (and no weight loss:confused3) so when I started MF in July I decided to stick to shakes, puddings and bars, all of which I like. Some of the shakes are a little sweet for my taste but I keep a few of them (orange creme, strawberry creme) on hand for when I need something sweet. And the chocolate mint bars taste identical to GS mint cookies:thumbsup2

Well, the first time I ordered...I got a variety pack (I ended up sending several things back to exchange, which they allow you to do).

I would suggest visiting the discussion boards on the MF site. They are lots of helpful info and hints on what to add to give more flavor.

I only like the chocolate shakes.....love all the crunch bars....add buillion to the stew and soups....the honey mustard pretzels are great as well as chili nacho puffs and parmasean puffs....the pudding is great. Scrambled eggs are very good.

I despised the oatmeal, though. I have always loved oatmeal, but this was....well, it was one of the items returned!

I take thyroid meds and I just try to eat the non-soy products as my first meal (eggs, for me) so that my med has time to get into my system. So far everything is great.

I am leaving this afternoon to visit my sisters and mom and all my MF food is in one small carry-on which is the size of my handbag! I did pack way more of the bars and puffs/pretzels since I will be on the go alot.

Check out the discussion boards!

I looked into this yesterday when I placed my first order.

The VIP membership is good for 1 week of free food for the first 2 months if set up on auto ship. This works out to approx $75 a week for a total of $150 savings during the first 2 months - you get wo weeks of food for the price of 8.

The coupon code cannot be combined with the VIP offer (I tried) ;)
From what I have read the coupon codes come up fairly regularly so I figure I will use one down the road.

I ordered the variety for the first month figured I would try the different items and then know my likes and dislikes for the following orders - the "auto ship" order can be adjusted to a custom order as long as I do it 3 days prior to the next scheduled ship date.

The custom orders run approx 10% more than the variety

Can't help with the thyroid issues but this program used to be by prescription only. I suppose you could go online and ask their dieticians about replacing the Lean&Green meal with the shakes. With the L&G meal the daily calorie consumption is approx 800-1000 calories.

Good luck - I cant say I am excited but I am determined

If I order only the shakes, I will have to pay 10% more?

I'm planning to place my order next week.

Good luck to you too! :)

Thats about what it worked out to - Instead of just shakes I took the quantities of the variety pack and then went and calculated the cost of the same items but specific flavors and it totalled $333 vs. the $299 for the variety pack - that is about 10% higher. I think 20 boxes of items is considered the 4 wk supply. The shakes are $15.50 for a box of 7 - that would be $310 for the 20 boxes. Pretty much all of the basics are $15.50 per box - the bars are slightly higher.
