I my dd15 started complaining of her throat bothering her yesterday or feeling weird. Looked like she had a tonsil rock but today I don't see it. Today she said her throat just feels weird tingle. She took Allegra Tues and yesterday but no change. Yesterday she felt sleepy, achy & hot. But around 9 pm she felt better( I think the Advil helped with aches and hot. I was thinking it was allergies but not sure now. I also gave her. Robotusin but it didn't help .

Any good meds for weird throat, swollen throat?? On my way to Walmart thanks

Between the swollen lymph nodes, sore throat, body aches, and possible fever I'd have her pediatrician check her. It could be a simple cold or strep, or a million different things inbetween. A chloroseptic spray or lozenges, as well as lots of fluids, should help ease the soreness a bit.

Honey and fresh garlic. That's what I use when I have a sore throat.

If you can fresh tumeric that will help with inflammation as well.

Cepacol lozenges really help me get through the day with a sore throat. They are similar to the sprays which both numb your throat mildly. The lozenges are great since she can take them with her if she's out and about.

Make sure she gets lots of clear fluids and rest. It sounds like she's definitely sick with something. Hope she feels better!

Chloraseptic spray. Ibuprofen. Warm salt water gargle.

I went to the clinic last week with the absolutely worse sore throat but tested neg to strep.

The doctor said that Lozenges numb the tongue, the spray will hit the throat and do a better job.

Acording to DR. there has been a viral bug running around and it's basically a sore throat (I had sore neck and lymph nodes as well), post nasal drip, ear ache, and then a cough. I had no fever. No runny nose. My lungs never congested. But I was really tired and achy. Because it's viral there is nothing antibiotics can do, you can only treat the symptoms and try to avoid a secondary infection. (ears, sinus, lungs or throat)

The pharmacist also suggested bumping up to 800mg of ibuprofen for the swelling in my neck and achy body, and honestly that worked better than anything. But that spray was a life saver.

If dosing the maximum dose of ibuprofen doesn't help, alternate with Tylenol to the max daily dose. The two drugs have different mechanisms of action and complement each other very effectively. One works at the site of pain, the other works on the body's perception of pain. And being able to dose something every 2 to 3 hours is a plus too.

I hope it passes quickly!

Step is everywhere right now. Signs and symptoms can vary but if she is not better by tomorrow, I would get it checked. Lots of quick clinic places like target do strep test...quick and easy.

Gargle warm salt water.

It sounds like the bug that's going around. Ibuprofen, tylenol as needed, chloraseptic spray and Mucinex. (A decongestant might help at the beginning when the secretions are thin.) Keep taking the mucinex as you later develop some pretty thick, nasty secretions in your throat (to the point of gagging while you're talking) and it thins it out as much as possible. Lots of liquids, too, and rest. The effects of it last around 2-3 weeks.

PS where are you? It seemed to be all over the country.

DS20 just had something similar last week -- tested negative for strep, but there were awful white spots all through the throat and he was miserable. Dr. said it was a throat infection, gave him a z-pack for 5 days -- was miles better in 24 hours.

Tea with honey and lemon (add a shot of whisky if you choose...). It sounds like she might have strep throat. I'd go for a quick throat swab at the doctor or walkin clinic to be sure.

Dd's all better. I think she got sick because we stayed in a hotel and the room was hot so we had to keep Turning the air on all night. Dd has been going to bed with her hair wet and I'm sure sleeping with ac on doesn't help. She sleeps with her hair wet and braided for those nice beach waves( she's trying to stay away from hot hair tools) I know as a kid if my hair was a lil wet and I went to sleep with it wet id be dying the next day with sore throat. We have super thick hair

I don't think going to bed with wet hair will not make you sick. Germs make you sick. My DD15 goes to bed with wet hair all the time and it has no ill effects on her.

Going to bed with wet hair won't do it. Germs from a virus or bacteria will do it. Glad she is feeling better though!!! Strep is going around big time right now. I have had many kids in the school where I work with it, and they aren't showing the typical symptoms. My brother is an ER nurse, and he said a kid could just have a fever with no other symptoms and wind up with a positive strep test. Sometimes the strep tests come back negative, but if the cultures are run for several days, the bacteria will grow and the culture will be positive. I've had that happen to me a few times.
