this year my doctor put me on the victoza pen. it needs to be refrigerated. we are doing a split stay at pop and cb. my travel agent already requested a fridge for medical purposes but she suggested i should have a letter from my doctor because i am traveling with needles. any one here travel with doctor notes about their drugs??

For WDW you can and should request a sharps container. Fridges are complimentary at CBR but will have to be requested for medical reasons at Pop. Definitely note everything on both of your reservations. I'm not sure about air travel though and keeping your meds at the proper temperature until you arrive.---Kathy

According to drugs.com
Storing unopened Victoza injection pens: Store in the refrigerator. Do not store near the refrigerator's cooling element.

Storing after your first use: You may keep "in-use" injection pens in the refrigerator or at room temperature. Protect the pens from moisture, heat, and sunlight. Use within 30 days. Remove the needle before storing an injection pen, and keep the cap on the pen when not in use.
I would suggest going to www.coolerconcept.com and looking at the Frio Cold Packs. There are several people in this forum, myself included, who use them.

These are gel packs that are water activated. They will keep the internal temperature at insulin-safe levels for over 40 hours in a 100 degree environment. As the water evaporates you can just soak it in water for a few minutes to reactivate it. They come in various sizes.

For example, I have a "double wallet". Depending on what I am doing it will hold my Byetta pen as well as either a syringe with insulin in it or two insulin vials. And I tend to do at least five air round trips a year and have never had any problems with TSA over it.

i have a frio for the plane- used it camping and it seemed to work fine. thanks for the info.

I don't carry a doctor's note for my needles or new pens of Byetta or Lantus. I have never had a problem with the airport - I just put everythhing together in a small cooler and declare it. The frio packs are great for carrying your in use pen around if you think that you will be exposed to warm weather for long. When we travel during warm weather to Florida, I carry my Byetta around the parks with me in a Frio pack since I have to inject that before meals. I don't think I would trust it to store my unopened pens for too long but it does great with the in use pen I just want to protect from the heat.

My understanding of the Victozza (I am considering switching) is that you only have to inject once a day and that injection doesn't have to be timed with food. So i would expect that you will not need to carry the pen around with you during the day. Congratulations on that!
