My mother is coming with us in December on her first trip to Disney World and her first cruise. She hasn't flown in a long time and is wondering if all her pills need to be in prescription bottles. She wants to put all the pills she needs for one day in a container and carry 8 containers for the 8 days. Can she do this? If she can't, she will have to bring 20 bottles. What do others do in this situation.
Thanks,
Kerianne

I have flown since 9/11/01 and I do carry some medication and I have never had a problem. She should take written scrips with her as well incase something happens to her medicine.

I would have the prescription bottles with me, but in packed luggage is fine. If you are going to be screened to that level, then I think they'd be willing to let you prove yourself with checked baggage if necessary!
Encourage her to have a couple of days worth of that medication in the carry on, and the paper prescriptions for back up are a good idea.

Enjoy.

I've never had a problem doing just that, but I have read that they should be in their appropriate marked bottles.

I guess you just never know.

I guess the question is: What is more inconvenient? To have to dig through your checked luggage to prove you have prescription bottles? To be detained in security when all you want to do is get to WDW? or To carry 20 prescription bottles in your carry on so it's easy to identify each medication?

I'd talk to your pharmacist. Maybe they can give you labels and small bottles that will be easier to tote than the bigger bottles a whole month's worth of pills comes in. Then just put 8 of each pill into the correct container and put all of the containers into a gallon ziploc.

That's what I'd do only because the thought of being detained for something preventable would drive me NUTS! :)

Unfortunately the perscriptions need to be in it's properly marked bottle. I too inquired about this since I order mine through the mail. When I called to place my order I explained that I was taking a cruise and that they needed to be in an orginal, properly labeled bottle and since I know mine come in very large bottles I requested that they send along a smaller empty, but labeled bottle. I was told that it was illegal to place a label on an empty bottle but they would see what they could do about sending them in smaller bottles. :Pinkbounc YIPPEE, they arrive in smaller bottles.

Good Luck!

I don't take 20 but I do have 13 different pills for me and 4 for my son so I guess we are pretty close! We do take all of those individual bottles with us. We end up needing a special carryon just for meds. What a pain!
