Medical & Travel Insurance

Check out what your credit card offers. We have out of country medical benefits through our employer and purchase the travel protection through our credit card.

I have had an annual travel policy attached to my homeowners (Intact) insurance for years. $245 a year for my family of 4 adults...unlimited trips up to 30 days duration $5M pp max per trip. The travel portion is called 'Travelwell 30'
Great insurance..have had need to use a few times and they've been amazing.

If you have a premium credit card, check your benefits. We have enough travel/medical coverage with it for most of our less expensive trips. For bigger trips in the past we've just paid extra to bump up the coverage.

We now have multi trip annual coverage through a program available for retired federal employees. Its about $150/year for the 2 of us.

Yes, check the prices of annual coverage for trips :thumbsup2. Ours costs less than half what we paid for RBC's travel insurance for one trip!

Thank you everyone for your help. We do have insurance with our CC but don't want to always have to use that specific card. We like to use our USD card in the USA so want to be covered no matter what.

We use the TD Travel Medical annual policy. Covers our entire family for trips year round (30 day per trip max, I think; but we never go for more than 14 days), and doesn't need me to book on a specific CC - which is hard to do because we own timeshares, and don't really "book" at all. It does have some cancellation benefits as well as the medical coverage and the cost is very reasonable for a family of 4. I know that RBC also had a similar plan.

I also have an Elite Visa as well with pretty good coverage, but there is a lot more "fine print" on that coverage, including charging requirements, and who was covered. For the cost, I thought it much easier to just setup a traditional policy and know that everyone was covered without restrictions.
