Not sure if this is in the right place:

Since having my second son a year and a half ago, my monthly cycle has sort of settled down, however I have noticed that I suffer that much worse then I ever used to. I don't really have the cramping pain, but I get really tired (shattered) and really grumpy. This starts exactly one week before the start day, and I find I generally can't cope with things and break down really easily. It also goes on for a week from when the period starts.

This is where it links with WDW = I have just worked out these two weeks are going to be exactly the same two weeks when we are in WDW this August:sad2: so I was wondering if any of you out there has any suggestions as to how I can deal with it. Anything that would calm it down, whether temporary (just for that one month), or long term.

I just want to do all I can to avoid feeling that bad and avoid ruining the trip for the rest of the family.

Thanks

trying drinking gatorade and eating bananas the next time. see if that helps. cant hurt and may help

I should add I also heard that drinking milk will help the cramps

I've had similar symptoms and find that if I take a daily multivitamin plus a Vitamin B-12 every day, I feel much better when that "time" comes. I also up my water intake the week before. The bananas and Gatorade suggestion is excellent, also!

Have you had a blood test? The really tired thing could be anemia, which is easily treated.

I'm no doctor but an oral contraceptive can be very helpful to alleviate symptoms and these days you can skip the "cycle" all together if you choose....maybe talk to your doctor & he/she might have some solutions.

I agree TOTALLY w/ the vitamin B-12....but also B-6 and calcium. I've had horrific cramps since I was 13 and have endometriosis. When my doctor started me on these vitamins, I rarely have cramping. (where was he when I went through my 20's and 30's ! )

My sister gets mood swings and progesterone cream helps with that. You can get it at the health food store. You just put a dab on each wrist ( as it directs) and rub it in. I'm a big believer in your local health food store after being on drug after drug my whole life to help control endometriosis.....In my experience, nothing alleviated anything until I got on vitamins.

Bananas are fantastic for cramping and energy......:goodvibes the best thing to do though is to talk to your gyn.....they can help you. And look into wholistic ideas....it's less taxing on your body than conventional medicine. (won't harm your liver like medicine can)

I'll be interested to see if this post gets locked and the OP warned, since that's what happened when I posted a similar question.

I was going to suggest holistic as well. I get very weepy and angry and stressed like the op and have found a number of things more natural to help. Just make sure if you are on an oral contraceptive or any form that you check that the natural stuff does not have an effect on this. Certain things like st johns wort which is a natural anti depressant stops your pill from working(you don't maybe want that extra surprise), evening primrose oil helps with cramps and can help with mood as well. Worth talking to the doc and asking their advice or a well qualiied alternative medicine practitioner and never start on anything until you talk to your DR.

Just a warning - I got the bright idea of getting on the pill last year to try and skip my "time" during our trip and it didn't work. I threw in my heating pad for after the parks and that was a lifesaver (not just for cramps!).

Sam-e has worked wonders for me & my "attitude." My husband says it levels out my highs & lows. As far as cramps go I can't comment. I have 1 or 2 days a month that I have cramping, but NOTHING has worked for me.

I agree with talking to your doctor to see if you can skip this month. I have done this before. Good luck with whatever you choose and have fun.

I'm an RN and I suggest that you not seek medical advice on the internet, but rather your Gynecologist. You may have a hormone imbalance, anemia (as another poster suggested). A significant change in your mood warrants advice from your physician.

I agree, while asking for what others do can be a guidence......NOTHING substiutes speaking with your doctor.
He/she will know how to help you better than anyone on the boards.

Please speak with the doctor soon, as you could get everything under control before you go, but you don't have long.

Have a safe and happy trip.

Magnesium helps a lot for pms type symptoms and also keep up your electrolytes, rest a bit more and take motrin or advil as a profalactic if you can take meds like that. It helps block the prostiglandids and if you start it will help with how bad it is and if not in the mean time it helps with the crampy, wiped feeling which will probably make everything else better.

No matter what I do I always start in FL. There is some sort of weirdo thing going on with mother nature and that state! I can go a week early or a week later and I always end up with it on vacation.

Definitely try to find a diet that works for you starting now. If you can swim every day that would be great. I would avoid processed foods and simple carbs and try bananas.

At the time be as comfortable as you possibly can. wear a sleeveless sundress or really comfy shorts, comfy hat, comfy shoes etc. See how you hubby feels about giving you "time off." Dont worry about missing stuff, take some hours or even a day and luxuriate in your room

HTH

Avoiding processed foods and simple carbs have helped me tremendously. Carbs that come from fruit and vegetables are wonderful.

Regular exercise can help. It releases endorphins which make you feel good.

Start taking a multi-vitamin if you are not.

See your doctor as soon as possible. You may be anemic or have a hormone imbalance. I have really had to fight anemia ever since I hit the big 30. Your doctor may also suggest that you take the pill which has also helped me.

You can easily start with your diet, exercise and vitamins now. I would say this has helped more than any prescription meds I have taken besides the pill. But do make an appointment to see your physician immediately.

I was put on the pill for medical reasons at one point and my emotions were worse while I was on it. OP - talk to your dr to see what he/she can recommend. He/she may not even recommend a medication but may have a more natural solution.
