Medical Fridges Warning

My TA friend was told today by a phone CM that ppl requesting a fridge for medical reasons (at Value Resorts - Moderates and Deluxes come with fridges) may be asked to produce a doctor's letter stating they have a valid medical need for a fridge and if they don't, they could be charged the regular fee for a fridge. Apparently, many people who have no medical needs for a fridge have been abusing medical fridges by saying they need one so they don't have to pay for a fridge. :sad2:

So, just be warned that you may have a hard time with some CMs in getting a medical fridge - explain that you do not need a letter and make sure they don't charge you the fee if you actually need the fridge for medical reasons.

(And to those who steal from Disney by not paying for a fridge when they have no medical need for one, BIG SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!! )

Disney does have a right to require proof of medical need.

The exception to the law is when the provider it giving something above and beyond what a nondisabled client would receive. Disney thus is giving the disabled person something that a nondisabled person does not receive, the fridge for free. All guests can get a fridge for a cost but only special needs guests can get that fridge for free.

This was discussed long ago and an example was the National Parks can require proof of disability when they offer said guest free admission if they are disabled. The zoo gives a free admission to a caretake so they can require proof of disability.

Thank you for the warning as it is very valuable.
