Medela Pump In Style Breastpump?

I have a preemie and have to pump for her so I rented the lactica while she was in the hospital and used the new medals hospital grade while at the NICU. I bought the pump in style advance in the metro bag once she came home because she never quite got the hand of nursing like many preemie. I loved it! I know you are not suppose to resell these but I feel if you replace the tubes there is no issue sine no milk has ever toughed my actual motor. If you are interested PM me and I will give you the deals on mine since I am no longer using it and don't plan on anymore kids since I had DD so early an chances are I will have another preemie...plus i figure if and when DH and I decide on another technology will be better and I will want a new one.

I loved the medela sterilizing bags! I had so many leftover from the hospital that I gave them away to friends. Our first NICU had a pumping room with TONS of free stuff! I have freezer bottles out my ears and I did have sterilizing bags but I gave them away. Still have the bottles if anyone wants them.

I also used the medela freezer bags and LOVED them. I would freeze them flat so they were thin and could stack better in the big freezer. I ended up with a month or 2 of frozen milk that helped when I started slowing down with my pump sessions.

Hijacking kinda....

Im looking for a pump also so this has been great information for me. Now the hijack. I have 10 weeks left before my little one is born. I have 3 older kids but didnt BF them. This time Im planning on going exclusively breast fed. Trouble is, I have no idea what I need to do to prepare. We just made the decision last week. My hospital doesnt have a lactation consultant and Im overwhelmed with information. Does anyone have any websites that they like a lot that you could PM me? Or Just any advice you have to share? I would really appreciate anything you could contribute.

Another big fan of the PIS. I have the old style and it works great. I imagine the new could only work better. My sister and I have shared it, so it's on the 4th child, currently. You can often find good deals on line to purchase for much less than at BRU. Drugstore.com sometimes has specials, but just do a google search. I waited to buy until I was sure breastfeeding would work for us. Many of the on-line sites have free overnight FedEx on the pump. If nursing didn't work, I knew I'd want to pump exclusively for at least a while and in that case would have rented a hospital pump since they are supposed to be more effective.

We use the Playtex bottles with the disposable liners and they now make a pump adapter for the PIS so that you can pump directly into the liners! It comes with 4 sealing disks to freeze. I don't use it much for freezing, but it is AWESOME for the milk that will be used the next day. I pump "one side" into the liner and the other side into the plastic Medela bottle that comes with the pump. When I'm done, I combine into the liner, seal it and stick in the fridge for the next day to drop right into the bottle - no pouring or wasting of the milk. (Then I adjust total amounts for each bottle as needed.) For the milk I freeze, I got 25 reusable soft 4 oz. plastic bottles to store a lot of it. The extra beyond that I have frozen in Lansinoh bags (I've been building up a 'stash' for when I go back to work full time). I also like the Medela bags. I tried the 'First Years' bags and Gerber bags and really don't like those. As for basic Ziplock bags, I personally wouldn't use them for a really young baby when it's nice (IMO) to keep everything sterilized. But by 6 months, I can't imagine unsterilized new bags would be worse than what they're getting off the floor from rolling around or from whatever they're teething on at that point (yes, my 5 month old daughter is very adept at finding shoes from across the room and latching on!)!

The site I found with the best price is www.hackleyhme.com. The PISA was $225 with free shipping whereas it is $279.99 at BRU. Not sure about any breastfeeding support websites but would love to hear of a good one too.

I have the PISA also. I bought the Medela Breastmilk freezer storage system - it was $14 at baby depot and I ad a 10% off coupon - it has 12 sterile until opened - 3oz containers w/ lids that hooked right up to the pump if you wanted. (I pumped into the bottles the PISA came with first) I would pour 2oz of the milk into each container for ease of defrosting puposes. Then clean the containers in the dishwasher. these were made for refridgeration or freezer - I had 2 packs total 24 containers. it was best for us and very convenient. I never had any leak issues and it was easy for my husband since that is the only time she was fed the frozen milk. (I work night shift 3 nights a week.) HTH

I also got mine thought Hackley! oh, and ask about a reimbursement through your insurance company - mine offers a onetime $50 reimbursement - not much i know but it is something.

You can also go to thenest.com - they have parenting boards on there and they are very helpful & supportive with either BF or FF.

Good for you for deciding to breastfeed! You can do it! This site has a wealth of information:

http://www.kellymom.com/

You really have to educate yourself on what is NORMAL breastfed baby behavior, so you don't think your baby is starving. Please read everything you can and if you have any questions this link:

http://messageboards.ivillage.com/iv-ppbreastfeed

is an excellent forum. These women know what they are talking about and will help you any way they can. Reading the board can also help you know what to expect and what is normal, and how to overcome commom obstacles. It is worth it to breastfeed your baby! Good luck!
