I was shocked at how many (on my cruise anyways) dressed up for formal night. We took advantage of the tux rentals for my husband and my 16 yr old and want to do it again for our Med cruise. I really dont want to cart two suits clear across the world when we can rent them for the week on the ship. Since I've never been on a Med cruise, do they dress up on formal and semi formal nights just as much as I've seen on my last Western Caribbean cruise? My dress is easily packable due to the material. Plus we are hoping for Palo brunch and dinner reservations and my husband recycled the pants that came with the tux rental so he didnt have to pack dress shoes or pants (just shorts) for our brunch/dinner and semi formal nights on our last cruise. Definitely got our money's worth just not sure if its common on the Med cruises. I know there are some that dont dress up and I'm not looking to get opinions , just wondering if its worth it on Med cruises is all to rent tux from those that have sailed this itinerary

A tux isn't required for formal night. Actually the formal "dress code" is only a suggestion. You'll find all sorts of dress in the dining rooms from fancy to tshirts/shorts on any night.

It's "worth it" to you if you want to do it.

Thanks for your input PrincessShmoo. I was just curious if it was even popular to participate there. Iknow there will always be a mixture of dress but also didnt want to stand out like a "sore thumb" if hardly anyone does it on this cruise. We dont get many opportunities to dress up and why we actually look forward to it.

I can only report on our Med cruse and the 2 transatlantic cruises we've taken, people pretty much dressed the same as they did for our Caribbean cruises. I'd say at least 1/2 to 2/3 of the people did dress up and the rest, not so much.

On our 2014 Med cruise, we sat with three other couples (unknown to each pre-cruise). Only one couple dressed in formal wear (gown and tux). The rest of us dressed nicely. No one was uncomfortable or out of place.

This is exactly what I was looking for input wise. Thanks you two!!

you don't have to dress up for formal night..
on the med cruise on the disney magic this past year, on formal night the cruise director said the following:
"who here is dressed up for formal night?"...and there was cheering and the CD said, "woohoo"
and then the CD said:
"who here is dressed like they're on vacation?" and there was cheering and the CD said, "woohoo"..

so clearly, it was perfectly acceptable to be dressed either way, formal or casual...

i never dress up for formal night ever....it's always cruise casual for me....and i never feel out of place..

I've done the Med on several lines, incl. DCL, and it seems that as the years pass, people dress less formally. On our upcoming 10 night Baltic cruise on DCL I will bring a cocktail dress & a black chiffon skirt I can pair with +/- dressy tops. Tuxes are worn by a minority of men & the Europeans on our Med cruises dress even more casually than the Americans.
