Mechanic Help Yukon XL cargo door locked open

I sure am hoping someone has an easy fix for me here. I really don't want to have to have it serviced if I don't have to just paid for brakes... When I picked up the kids from skiing today and loaded the skis in the back, I could not get the right cargo door to shut (the passenger side door the one with the handle). I have the "barn doors" for the cargo doors so it is not like a hatch back type set up. Anyway it appears that the latch that locks the doors is stuck in the locked position. I tried using my FOB and the buttons inside the Yukon to unlock it but no go. Tried to use the key to unlock and even though I can hear something moving in the door when I do this, it does not move the piece that is causing the door not to shut. I am not mechanically inclined in any sha[e or fashion so if anyone knows how to fix this easily, I would need clear step by step instructions. Thank you in advance for anyone that can give me any help at all! PS it is a 2002 Yukon XL

Have you tried manually pushing it back (use your fingers to push the latch part open). Our old Tahoe used to get bumped to the locked position somehow all the time and the fob/keys wouldn't open it but you could push it open with your fingers (don't force it though-it moved easily back in place for us).

Well I took a screw driver to it trying to get it to move up or down. I got it to move upwards a bit but it seems like it needs to go down, that I haven't been able to do. Maybe there is a trick. Definitely can't move it with my fingers

I found this site, and someone mentions on it how many hits the site has had (meaning what a common problem it seems to be). The person posts some step by step directions that are very detailed.

While his is a lift gate (as opposed to yours), there are some posters who say they use his directions to fix their cargo doors. It might be worth looking at (some posters say they've been quoted $350-$450 to fix it at the dealer.

Thanks for those trying to help. I ended up having to take it to the garage and they ordered a new latch should get the Yukon back today with a working cargo door.
