Measles at Disneyland (combined threads)

If you aren't able to provide shot records or an immunity test you are also forced to paid leave.

This is the right thing to do.:thumbsup2

I couldn't agree more. I still see a few people somehow blaming Disney for this outbreak. It seems to me that they've done everything they can do to clearly communicate about it and to prevent/mitigate further infection.

I do love Disney, but I'm not one of those people who feel like they can do no wrong. That said, it seems like they've handled this quite well.

I'm going tomorrow to get my blood work done to see if I'm immune...I wasn't overly concerned until hearing of the CM's. I'd rather be safe then sorry.

Exactly! This isn't Disney's problem, but they are taking the proper precautions on trying to avoid any further outbreaks. I mean really Measles @ Disney isn't the best thing to be tied to.

And they very well could have told their CM's to go home with no pay until this is resolved. They are doing a stand up job at fixing this in my opinion!

While they always say "most were not vaccinated" they fail to give actual numbers or percentages (except for the case of the employees, which is pretty even when you look at the sample size). No one knows how much "most" actually is, or if they are pulling that statement out of their rears in order to avoid having to post numbers.. Until I see actual numbers, I don't know what to think as far as percentage of vaccinated or not. Most could be 51% or 99% of those infected and the implications are different based on what the numbers really say.

From what I've been reading, out of ALL infected people whether working or visiting Disneyland, only TWO had been vaccinated.

Five adults were cast members at Disneyland. The guests was a 22 month old from Mexico and the other four of the infected are all under a year and cannot be vaccinated yet.

Total in Orange County are 53 who have or had measles and that was confirmed in Tuesday. They do not specify on that number on vaccinated or not.

Hey guys, this board is for discussing a vacation at Disneyland, so measles discussion should pertain to visits/precautions at Disneyland.

If you would like to discuss the merits of vaccinations vs no vaccinations, please take it to the community board.

Having said that, I saw this article today: http://www.cnn.com/2015/01/21/health/disneyland-measles/

(CNN)Happiness isn't the only contagious thing at Disneyland in California.

There's a measles outbreak at Disneyland, and one of California's top public health officials recommended that children under 12 and people who've never had a measles vaccination stay away from the park while the outbreak continues

However, Dr. Gil Chavez, deputy director of the State Epidemiologist Center for Infectious Disease, said at a Wednesday press conference that Disneyland would be "perfectly safe" if you've been immunized.

When asked for a response to Chavez's recommendation, Suzi Brown of Disney media relations said, "We agree with Dr. Chavez's comments that it is safe to visit Disneyland if you have been vaccinated."

Forty-two of the state's 59 measles cases since December can be linked to initial exposure at Disneyland and the adjacent Disney California Adventure Park in Anaheim, California Department of Public Health officials said.

In addition, eight other cases from people living in Utah, Washington state, Oregon and New Mexico were linked to Disneyland, Chavez said.

Since Friday, the public health department had been saying the outbreak linked to Disney was over.

But on Wednesday, Kathleen Harriman, chief of the Vaccine Preventable Epidemiology Section for the state public health department, said the most recent case was diagnosed, in a park employee, on Sunday.

I feel bad for those visitors and CM's that came down with Mickey Measles.

Disney is handling the Mickey Measles in a stand up way.

I watch the SoCal TV stations news programs and they are making it very clear this is not a Disneyland problem. That it's a public problem and to consider the vaccine if you haven't been vaccinated or your titer shows no immunity.

Because of the ongoing measles out break, not just in Disneyland, but in Ca in general, I actually have found myself making a medical appointment with my GP. Should be fun. I am still planning on visiting DLR next month. So unless there is a CDC warning against it, I shall be there. :)

I hope the outbreaks dwindle away and those with the measles recover soon.

We're all up to date on our immunizations and vaccinations.
Since nothing is 100%, I hope were not part of the 1%.

Mickey Measles is one souvenir I don't want to bring home from our March trip.

I have a Mommy and Son trip starting on Tuesday of next week. What scares me is my son is 6 months old. I know this outbreak didn't just happen and hope what ever this is has gone already. However I am still not sure if we should go now.

This makes me mad that we we might have to cancel our Disney trip because my daughter is not old enough to be vaccinated. People who don't vaccinate really make me angry. We have planned our trip for six months. We are lucky it isn't until June so we have a chance this will die down.

If health officials are saying not to take unvaccinated children to Disneyland, I would avoid it. Disneyland will still be there next year.

When I first read this, I thought well it's silly to not go. Those people are gone. Problem is there is an outbreak in Southern California, so people could be going there still who have measles and don't know it yet. I hope this dies down by June because my daughter is not old enough to be vaccinated.

After reading that article, I wouldn't go. Your baby's safety could be compromised.

Well said and agreed!

I have to say that I agree - I wouldn't go with an infant or other immunocompromised person right now. It's not just Disneyland. Orange Country in general is a hotbed of anti-vaxxers and the outbreak is growing, so the airports, buses, taxis - everything is fair game for infection. They've even told unvaccinated kids not to go to school until the end of the month.
