Mears wait times

I'm going back & forth between just shelling out over $100 for a private towncar service (which we've done in the past) - or to schedule (or walk-up) to Mears & get a transfer for half the price. It's just DS7 & myself, so for $50 less I'm leaning towards Mears - BUT has anyone used them recently that can comment on the wait time? I realize I may be thrown on a ME bus, or van or car service, I don't care about that. I just don't want to wait 20 min. to get a van that's going to stop at 4 resorts before mine. Yes I know, pay the extra for the towncar which will be waiting to whisk us off directlty to our resort. It's that $50 extra that I could use for a great character meal for DS & myself that's bugging me!

Car service is a guarantee. Your plane gets in. You walk over and pick up your luggage or let it go on the luggage service. The driver meets you and you will shortly be on your way to WDW. Shared rides do not guarantee that. What are your needs.

You'll never rule out the chance of boarding the shuttle, waiting a half an hour for more passengers to board, and having the shuttle make 4 or 5 stops before your resort. If you make ten trips, getting the shuttle on the airport B side each time, the average time to your resort will be somewhat less given that there the chances are greater you will be on the same bus as Magical Express guests.

>>> go on the yellow tag luggage service

Psst! Not to the Dolphin, as the OP's signature suggests for the vacation in question.

About how long does it take to get from MCO to a WDW resort using a towncar service?

Where are you going? Can't tell you anything without that.

OPs tag says they're staying at the Dolphin.

Even for a DME bus a 20 minute wait is possible. Same with 3-4 stops. You'll probably save 30 minutes if you use a towncar. Only you can decide if it's worth it.

AH ok, didnt see that. THS.

Whether you go on a Van or DME, you could have multiple stops. The only way to GO DIRECT ASSURED is to us a car service or a cab. I guess it all depends what the extra time is worth to you.

Sorry I mis read your original post.

You can almost be assured that no matter whether you get on the DME bus or just a regular shuttle van, you are most likely going to be sharing with someone else. If this bothers you, then I would spring for the towncar service. You can be at the Dolphin within about an hour of landing if you use a towncar service...perhaps a bit less depending on how long it takes your luggage to come out.

It takes about 25-30 mins from MCO to WDW...depends on exactly which resort you're at. POP is closest I believe...others are much further out. Dolphin is pretty central.

Thanks for the replies. We will have no checked luggage, just carry-ons, so waiting for luggage will not slow us down. Here's another question - let's say I choose to go with Mears to save the $50 - on my return from Dolphin to MCO - will this be pre-arranged that I have a time to be waiting outside my hotel for them (ME bus, van, whatever) or will I have to call & arrange that a day before I leave? I like to have things in order & confirmed before I start my trip, and didn't read anywhere that said the "round trip" transfer had a confirmed pick-up time on my day of departure.

If you go with Mears you may wait outside just as long as the busses. A Mears shuttle shows up and if you aren't there they go. Than you start the process all over. You call Mears the day before and set up the time you want to leave the hotel. The Mears shuttle will be ther give or take 15 minutes. The only thing that can get you a quarantee is traveling with your party alone. You can take a taxi or car service for this.

Last time I used "plain Mears" was ages, eons, ago, but returning to the airport required reservations. You were supposed to make your return reservation at least a day in advance. I suppose it's the same way now. The need for passenger counts still exists.

One time I came out of the airport terminal and there was a long line of folks waiting for Mears. I walked up the outside concourse to another, smaller, Mears station and there was no line there. It was only a few minutes before I was on a van shuttle. I don't know whether I would have gotten to Disney just as quickly by staying at the large, more crowded, station, that would have depended on how fast the line moved and whether they did any segregation of passengers by destination given the volume.
