Our daughter is graduating from high school in June and I want to get her some things that mean something like:

-a new adult bible (her current one is geared toward teens),
-a book about making life decisions or keeping on track in college

Any suggestion or any other ideas? She doesn't need money and she doesn't need any more clothes!

(I am putting together a photo album that has pictures of her from birth thru her senior year)

it's more fun than meaningful, I think .. but our standard graduation gift is Dr. Seuss' "Oh, the Places You'll Go!", along with a gift card or something small.

we didn't get that for our DS when he graduated high school last year, but he did receive it as a gift, LOL!

I'm sure you're thinking of something larger than that, though. Jewelry? A charm bracelet?

Thank you!

Someone actually got my daughter the book at Christmas. I think it was my mom! I am thinking jewelry. She loves jewelry!

We bought our daughter a necklace. It is a small white gold heart with a diamond chip and a small emerald. She prefers her jewelry on the smaller side and her birthstone is the emerald. We let her pick it out. A piece of jewelry is something you will have for a lifetime.

I would suggest taking the photo album a step further. Make a DVD of her pictures or order her a Photo book from Snapfish. :thumbsup2

Many moons ago when I graduated high school my mom wrote me a beautiful note. She did the same thing on my wedding day, when my children were born, etc. She now keeps a book for each of her grandchildren with special moments they'e shared, funny stories etc. If you have a knack for writing a very special note might be a cherished keepsake for your daughter in years to come.

I also say jewelry. My father-in-law gave me diamond earrings for my college graduation. They're tiny, but they're real and pretty. I'm pretty sure my parents gave me something practical for my HS graduation, but I know my dad bought me a beautiful necklace to wear to my prom. I can look at everything in my jewelry box and tell you exactly where it all came from, who gave it to me, and for what occasion.

My DH received a copy of his graduation announcement and picture that had been matted and placed in a beautiful frame. We still have it hanging on our wall today. So, maybe a shadow box with special momentos?

Have to agree with jewelry. I still have the beautiful sapphire ring and amethyst ring I got for graduation.

I would vote for jewelry - When I was that age, a bible was the last thing I wanted.

While I realize that everybody has different opinions, I'll have to say that a new Bible was something that my daughter did want. Like the OP's daughter, she had a teen study Bible and was really wanting a new one (a little more adult oriented).

OP, another thing that you might consider is a string of pearls. I just got my daughter a strand for her wedding, and she was thrilled. It's a staple to a nice wardrobe. :goodvibes

Thank you everyone! You have given me some things to thinks about.

I was just thinking that I'm not going to just sign my name on a graduation card like I do so often! I want to take my time and write her a letter, because we are very proud of her and how she had handled herself thru highschool. Maybe my husband will write a few paragraphs too!

She loves jewelry and she has a lot already, so I'm just not sure we should give her more, but if I find the right piece, maybe we'll get it.

I have thought about those books on snapfish. I have never done it and I guess I'm a little scared because I don't even know how to put pics on the computer. My husband would need to help.

And also, I believe my daughter would appreciate a new bible. Something else that makes me proud of her!

Several years ago we gave my nephew a Bible that was for students going to college. It had all kinds of "helps" in it for students facing temptations and spiritual challenges while in college. We had his name put on it and gave him a cash gift, as well. I am sure that if you check out some Christian bookstores, you could find something similar. I have three college-age kids and a high-schooler, myself, and I know that that generation really likes those new, smaller Bibles. You should be proud of your daughter! She sounds like a wonderful young lady.:thumbsup2

Oh thank you. :flower3: She is our oldest and so our first to graduate and will be living at home and going to college this fall. I will definately go to our church's bookstore and look at the Bibles for college age.

One of my HS graduation gifts from my parents was a dictionary and thesaurus, that were used A LOT in college.

I got money from my parents when I graduated from college, but the most memorable gift I received was an engraved letter opener from one of my dad's business partners. I still use it almost every day.

I would suggest Tuesdays With Morrie by Mitch Albom, The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch or anything by C.S. Lewis for uplifting, inspirational reading.

Not sure how much you are looking to spend. On my graduation I got a Cedar Chest from my parents. 25 Years later it is still in my bedroom and holds all my treasures.
