Mean reply?

But.......all the meanies are gone right :confused3 Have been for months.

How can there be mean and snarky replies?
What she said

I was called an outright liar yesterday... :lmao:

I appreciate the fact that the perp did come back and explain his disdain, but yes, it did seem rather surprising.

Surprising, though? No. People grow big ones when no one can punch them in the face. ;)
I saw that.
Some things you need to take from the source.

The meanies aren't gone, just the major trouble makers, since you brought it up.:thumbsup2
I thought they where one in the same:confused3

My, my could this be the pot speaking to the kettle? I don't agree that because someone disagrees with you that they are "stupid" nor would I blame them if your post was confusing or misleading and misunderstood. As was stated earlier, there is no tone or infraction is the printed word, we read it as we see it and put our own tone in. That is what causes the majority of misread posts.

It's a discussion board, not a hug and kiss board. How dull this world would be if everyone agreed with everything all the time.

One just needs to be a little thick skinned. People posting here do not even know you. They cannot be out to get you or embarrass you or do anything else to you. We all come from different backgrounds, different degrees of education and different temperments. The community board can sometimes be a little less magical then the WDW board or the Disneyland board. Occasionally the discussion on this board can get emotional. Just don't take it personal and either join in or ignore it. It's really that easy.

I don't think the OP is talking about the CB, that seems to be the norm around here and you are right either join in or ignore it.

First, I'm really talking about the other board areas, not just the CB. I can appreciate a little "spirited" debate.:) and I know some love it.

That said, yes, I agree that sometimes it's hard to read someone's tone as it was intended. I also feel that if you ask for an opinion, you will get an opinion, like it or not. Also, if you ask for advice, you may get advice you don't agree with.

What bothers me is when someone asks a question or asks for advice and they are insulted. For example: someone asked a question today regarding reserved seats on an airline. They really just wanted an answer - but what they got were a few posts calling them cheap and inconsiderate. Literally. I just don't get the name calling. Why be mean?

I'd ask, "does it make some people feel better to be mean to someone else?" - but I know the answer. Sometimes I feel so bad for the OP. Thanks for all the great replies so far. I knew it wasn't just me.

I know of one thread that you are talking about, someone was talking about something they saw and was totally trashed for it and told basically to mind your own business.

Another thread the poster told a story of how her kids small kick-nacks were stolen from her stroller and how some Disney CM's replaced the stuff. The post was a reminder to all not leave stuff in the strollers and how magical it was that they replaced the stuff. She did not expect the treatment she received, she just reported it to security. People were all over her for not taking everything with her on the ride, she was stupid and Disney should not have replaced everything. The way it was written was a reminder you are still in the real world and a UNEXPECTED "Magic Moment" that she felt Disney did not have to do because she let her guard down. She was praising them for their customer service.

I guess some people have nothing to do but bash others, I've seen threads around here that are written for the sole propose of getting a reaction and they get flamed, so be it, that was the intention. When someone gets flamed unnecessarily it ticks me off and it seems to be happening alot lately.

I'm on the CB flame away I'm a Big Boy I can take it!:scared1:

Not flaming or being mean.
But what one person sees as a thread for getting a reaction others see as real, and the other way around.

Various PERPS on the DIS....;)
:lmao: :lmao:

Did you get permission to post their pics???

Oh dear no stolen pictures.:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

You can't agree with everyone on every single thing. People disagree. You can't even like every single thing about other people. Lord, find me the person who can say, "I find absolutely nothing wrong with Phil" and I'll bet you dollars to doughnuts that he doesn't know Phil very well.

Everyone has good and bad points. And no matter how much people may like each other, they're going to disagree at some point.

The whole point of message boards is to get differing opinions. Sometimes that opinion is that you're an idiot.

An often-banned poster was always telling me what an idiot I was, but was my best DIS bud, all the same. We didn't agree on very much around here and got into it once or twice. When he was Really, Truly, Permanently, For-Real, We-Mean-It-This-Time, Banned-Banned, I was sorry he was gone.

I have yet to hold a grudge against anyone. There's a whole "We Hate Cool-Beans" club and I can't even keep track of who is in and who is out of it. I thought I should so that I wouldn't offend them by quoting or being nice or whatever...then I thought, "The hell with it. If they hate me all that much, they can stick me on ignore."

When all is said and done, it is a message board. It has its good points and bad ones...and shouldn't be taken all that seriously...just like all of us.

That's my $.02

Really? I disagree--plenty of troublemakers are still around

Not flaming or being mean.

:thumbsup2 You can't always tell a person's intent by their written word. Some may read sarcasm as literal, etc.

I got pounced not too long ago. Eh. People have their opinions. Some of them posted their opposing opinions in a down to earth way. Others were a little more aggressive. It is what it is. "Different strokes for different folks," as they say.

You just take it in stride, don't let it bother you, and move on. What one person finds highly offensive, another will just smirk at.

True, very true, but I'm talking about those low post count off the wall thread starters.

I love a good debate but when people start calling names because they are running out of facts or the other person actually making sense that bugs me.

The political threads around here are wild, so much passion, us Canadians are pretty laid back compared to you guys and gals.:rotfl2:

I didn't think you flamed or were mean. Just two adults having a discussion.:)

My intelligence has been questioned more times than I care to remember, thank you very much!

Fergie, after all you "ated tinkerbell" didn't you.

To the OP

This place is tame, if you want to get knocked around for a while go to a NFL board ........ everyone is a sports expert.

Yeah I stay far far away from the political threads. Those do get insane

There are a few posters who get up everyone's noses for being snarky, rude and just damn right obnoxious.

They know who they are.

Rich::

I doubt it!:rolleyes1

I have a VERY sarcastic sense of humor and have had two incidents in the recent past where I was accused of being snarky or mean. Like the other posters said it's hard when people don't know you, can't see your face and can't hear the tone of your voice. Just remember we are all not going to agree all the time and you can chose not to read the "snarky" replies or try not to let them bother you.

Welcome to the DIS!!:wizard:

Your siggy is crackin' me up. :rotfl2:

You just have to take it in stride. As long as I've been here, I've learned that if you ignore the nasty comments then those making them tend to lose interest. But you won't ever get rid of all of the "mean" people and you'll likely take out some nice people if you're not careful.

I have yet to hold a grudge against anyone. There's a whole "We Hate Cool-Beans" club and I can't even keep track of who is in and who is out of it. Do you think they have a secret handshake and all? ;)

Not being in the club, I wouldn't know...but I'd certainly hope so. Wouldn't be a very cool club if they didn't!

And I'll give you three guesses as to who this was:
An often-banned poster was always telling me what an idiot I was, but was my best DIS bud, all the same. We didn't agree on very much around here and got into it once or twice. When he was Really, Truly, Permanently, For-Real, We-Mean-It-This-Time, Banned-Banned, I was sorry he was gone.
Of course, you could guess correctly and I could still say you were wrong. He had more than three names, that's for sure.

But I totally understand why he was banned. Not protesting. Just miss him. (Even though "idiot" may have been one of the nicer things he called me.)

Your siggy is crackin' me up. :rotfl2:

LIAR!! In no way is my siggy cracking you up! LIAR LIAR PANTS ON FIRE! ;)

I used to have a pic of my kids for my siggy -- but lets face it...they can't drive. What fun is that??

Edited to add: Someone recently pointed out to me that if you look at the trees whizzing by in the background one looks like Mickey Mouse. Uncanny!
