Why does it seem that I will go out of my way to put a smile on another persons face - but some people seem to go out of their way to be horribly miserable to others?

I was in the grocery store earlier today. I only had about 8 things that I needed to get, so I got into the express line. Luke (4) was with me and I told him he could pick out a treat on the candy rack. A woman (probably in her late 30's early 40's) got behind me with only a salad from the salad bar.

I looked at her and said "why don't you get in front of me - you only have one thing" With a totally disgusted look on her face she replied with - "Yes...I do only have one thing - thanks, I didn't want to have to wait 10 minutes for your kid to pick out what kind of candy he wants either"

I had quite a few choice words I was about to say - but held it in. Thats what I get for being nice huh? Like I said - Mean, Grumpy people stink!

wasn't Papa Duece was it? :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

(just kidding)

Goodness! :earseek: I think I'd feel sorry for such an unhappy and bitter person.

It was kind and thoughtful of you to let her go first- and I think little examples of thoughtfulness like that make huge impressions on our kiddos.

Wow that is incredible how some people could be so mean and rude!!! I think i would have told her i changed my mind and she could stay behind me--and make my ds go through all of the candy bars before he picked one--that would teach her to pipe up again :teeth:

I agree. Mean, grumpy people drive me crazy. It doesn't take much to be nice to others - it would seem it's a whole lot harder to be miserable all the time.

I was thinking the same thing. :rotfl:

That was nice of you...don't let her get you down or stop you from being thoughtful next time. :sunny: You are too much of a sweetie!!

Interesting.....

I was in the grocery store yesterday and had 1/2 a cart full of stuff. The checker at the '15 items or less' line called me over because there were not very many people in the store and she had no customers. As I was pulling my cart over to her line, I saw a woman with only a few things in her hands and called to her to come over and get in line in front of me. She said 'thank you' and then tactfully tried to point out to me that I had no business being in that line with so many items....about 3 times. I told her that the checker had called me over and I was watching to make sure I did not squeeze out any customers that were qualified to use that 'quick' line. She stopped and looked at the checker and the checker told her that she had called me over so she would look busy. Then the customer looked so surprised that I had let her go through quickly ahead of me and she thanked me 2 more times (which I did not feel was necessary ~ but it was nice of her).

I think our society has gotten so fast and people expect to be serviced so fast that it makes people rude and grumpy when they have to wait for anything. With our ever increasing population, people should just cool their jets and get used to waiting patiently in line....and help make their children happier adults by teaching them 'public patience', too!

As a side: I don't know what the situation was with Papa Deuce that has been listed on these boards ~ but I don't see berating him when it did not even involve the berating poster!

What an old crab. Transparant, don't take it to heart. You still did a random act of kindness, and it will come back to bless you. This old crab will keep being the as# she is, until someone "schools" her for it. If only you could be there to see it when it happens...(*sigh*). Anyway, we appreciate your nice nature!
:grouphug:

I let some woman in front of me yesterday with 2 items and she thanked me about 6 times, then once more in the parking lot. One time I had a man using food stamps and trying to pick out one more thing, he grabbed a magazine and then the checker said no, so I told him to get candy, then he got the wrong sale item. I helped him get the right item and when I went through the checker gave me 20 percent off my order for being so "nice" and patient. Good things will come to you and she'll get hers! What a sourpuss!!

On another side note I was once in the post office and the woman behind me mumbled under her breath that the sweet elderly postmaster was so "f"ing slow. When I got up to the window I said - Hey Bob how is your summer? Hmmm what do I need, oh ya post card stamps, guess where we are going on vacation? Let me see how many do I need -- one for Aunt Anne and one for Uncle Joe and one.....
When he turned around to get my stamps I stuck my tongue out at her -- so immature but felt so good! Everyone in line behind her was busting a gut.

I have decided that after my experience today (which I have posted about,) grocery stores are evil places, that bring out the worst in people. I am sure they have subliminal satanic messages hidden in the store. Also men should be sedated before taking them shopping;)

Methinks I just blew my girdle with that laugh!!!!! :rotfl2:

To the OP - that was really gracious of you to bite your tongue and not lash back at her!

So - what candy bar did your son end up buying????
:teeth:

:cheer2: True words of wisdom! :cheer2:

Omgosh! How rude! Why couldn't she just have said, "Thanks," and gone in front of you? :confused3

Rude and grumpy people should not leave the house, because they only make life harder on the rest of us. Thats MHO
