Meal Plan. What would you do?

Room assignments get added in a week before I was told. If the names match and it’s the same type they tend to try to keep you in the same room. We used to do each night separate to add the dining plans. Now the dining plan doesn’t work out cost wise since kids are considered adults for Disney. With Dvc discounts it was cheaper to just pay vs doing the dining plan. We had to move once I think when we had multiple days at one resort. On the first day checkin I asked if possible to stay in the same room and we would need it cleaned each day. They were happy most of the time to let us stay in the room. Saved them a full cleaning.

first, remember that nothing is "free" with disney. You are paying full rate for the room, vs 35 to 40 percent off the room with either discounts or annual pass rate. Many times I do buy the dining plan, but in all honesty, it is cheaper to pay out of pocket than use the "free" dining. I would keep the room if you have discounts, and purchase disney gift cards from either target, BJ's or cosco at 5 to 10% off and pay for meals with those
I'm a new owner, and I dont have much first hand experience with dining plans. Our Vacation this year is in October, I tried to do the dining plan thinking that it would be cheaper than paying out of pocket. I was surprised to see it was almost as much as the hotel point wise. Last year, we spent about $1400 in our meals and this was at sit in restaurants for dinner every night. Quick on the go snack for breakfast and Lunch.

At the risk of being too off topic, if it is allowed, maybe you could bring a small toaster oven to your DVC studio if possible and just cooking smaller meals at the room (breakfast etc), while going out of pocket for one dinner a day? Seems a great way to save a few dollars.

There is a microwave and a toaster in the studio. I am not sure they would allow a toaster oven.
