Meal Plan Confusion

Can someone help me to understand the meal plan option? It seems excessively expensive so I must be missing something.

I am currently pricing out a 3-night package at the Disneyland Hotel (1,853 Euros) for a family of 3 (child age 11).

To add a PREMIUM half-board meal plan the cost is 438 euros (58 for adults/day and 30 per child).

Breakfast is already included in the reservation, yes?

Will 3 dinners (at premium restaurants) and 3 snacks cost us 438 Euros?

My instinct is to skip the dining plan and book the restaurants we want on our own, then we more flexibility.

If the meal plan is worth 438 Euros, I would love to understand more.

meal plans at DLP included "free" in your package price are worth having - meal plans that you have to pay for are not worth having - they are restrictive and you can eat much more cheaply outwith the plan.

If you want to eat at premium restaurants for the three days, then yes, the meal plan will save you money. Best thing to do is look at the restaurants and decided where you want to eat. If they're all in the same category (standard, plus or premium) then get the meal plan.

I've used the premium meal plan twice, so feel free to ask any more Qs!

It seems, with the meal plans, that you are locked into specific fixed menus. Is this correct? I've looked at the places I want to eat (that aren't buffet) and I would rather choose what's not in a fixed menu.

Some restaurants have a fixed set menu regardless of whether you have meal plan vouchers or not, such as Bistro Chez Remy, Cafe Mickey and Auberge De Cendrillion. If you have the voucher, you'll also get a free drink.
In buffets, you get a free drink if you have the voucher.
In other table service restaurants, such as Blue Lagoon, there's a set menu for the vouchers, and also a la carte. You can use the cash value of a voucher and order whatever you like, but you won't get a free drink.
Hope that helps!

Thanks :) I have a few months before I decide if the meal plan is really worth it for us.. (Me mostly as I am the picky eater of the two of us going :) )

I spent some time trying to figure out the value as well. They have got to have the most confusing explanation possible on the disney website. I concluded that it would just be a lot easier to pay oop as I could see not even knowing what a person was even entitled to when they tried to dine.
