This happen on our last trip and I just was refreshed when I booked today.

Our family wanted to stay at two resorts for our next visit and take the toal amout of days for our meal plan, but if we do that, the meal plan would make the reservation a seperate booking (two bookings).

What I don't get is if we decide to stay at the Poly and Beach club, why does the meal plan automatically make these seperate reservations?

The dining plan would be used throughout Disney, so I just don't get why the added complication and paperwork on their end. Can anyone explain

TIA

The meal plan is tied to your room reservation. When your reservation at Poly ends so does your meal plan, then your meal plan begins again at the other resort when you check in there. Ovwerall your costs are the same aren't they? You'll just have two cards that are valid simultaneously until midnight. It works out fine, we just didn't touch the new room keys until we completed the allocations on the first set. Now ticketing is trickier for this as all DDP has to be a package and you will need tickets on a package. It is not so much for dining that you need to be concerend but with the theme park ticketing. THat is trickier and would cause me to forgo the split vacation. With a package, to be able to get the dining you need at least a one day one park admission for all members of your party. For this to work out gets a bit expensive.

My bet is becuase their computers can handle joining two stays (reservations) together but cannot carry over the DP credits or park admissions between the two.

It would take a re-work of the software which isn't as easy as it sounds.

You have a good point & one I think Disney should address.

The meal plan makes them two separate reservations because, well, they ARE two separate reservations. The Dining Plan is tied to your room nights. If you stay at the Polynesian for three nights, you each get three nights of dining credits. Then you move to the Beach Club for four nights, and you each get four nights of credits. Seven nights' stay, seven nights dining credits.
