Meal Discounts

We do not want to be tied to the meal plan restaurants so I was just wondering what other ways you can get discounts on meals? I have read that AP holders get a discount at the restaurants but we are not AP holders. Is there any other way to get a discount on your food and purchases at the gift shops?
