We are thinking about purchasing a meal deal for 2 days of our 6 day trip to Universal. When we went to WDW my oldest son thought the children's meals offered under their meal deal very limiting. We were going to buy him an adult meal deal but in looking at the menus, adults and children appear to have the same options. Can any one comment on this? In addition, it is all you can eat but people have commented that they stand in line again. Why? What can you purchase with each transaction?

In addition, we are planning on using the refillable mug that you can have refilled for under $1. Is this for the parks only or can they be used at the resort and City Walk as well?

Even if you have the meal deal, you still have to go through the line...there's not a separate line just for those people. You can get whatever you want each time through but again...you still have to go through the line. I don't think the meal deal is really worth it unless your son likes to eat a lot of typical theme park fare. There are only three places at each park on the meal deal and while their food isn't bad, there are better places. The portions at most restaurants are a good size and sometimes you could even split it. There is a food picture thread you should check out.

As far as the refill cups...they are only good at the parks...not at CityWalk and not at the hotels.

You can't get exactly what you want.

Each time you go through the line you can get one side, one entree and one dessert.

And there are several places in city walk you can refill your cup at.

not sure about the resorts though

yes ,apparently you can get refills at Citywalk carts, and couple of other places, think Pastamore was one, i was unaware of this , but now i know will save me buying DD drinks when sitting listening to the groups playing at night.

That's news to me too.

Yes, I do know that the food offered at the Meal Deal places is the typical theme park selection, but when looking, most of the places that I looked at seem to be the same. I have planned meals at Finnegans and Mythos as well as a few in City Walk to expand our choices but I think they are unavoidable when planning 12 meals at Universal. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Heres the thread Metro, now we need someone who has used the carts and Pastamore and Cinnabon , to clarify that you can get them at Citywalk.
I made mosts of the posts in that thread and yes I have gotten refills from cinnabon, pastamore and many of the carts in citywalk.

Even the refreshment stand in the parking garage

basically look for anyplace selling the souvenier cups and you can get yourself a refill

That's cool then. :thumbsup2

Are the refillable mugs easy to carry? Do they have a strap or something?

That's great to know about Citywalk and the Garage! We were planning on getting the refillable cups :)

Does anyone know if you can use the refillable mugs to get a refill of butterbeer, or do you have to purchase a special one for that?

From what others have said, you can only get refills through buying the souvenir mug (not the normal refillable mugs). Refills of butterbeer are the same price as buying a standard cup of butterbeer ($2.50 I think).

What are the drinks that they serve? meaning Pepsi or coke? do they have diet drinks to like diet coke and sprite zero?

coke and they have the main ones at every stand and some of the others at other stands
