We gave him $1 per bag that he had to retrieve for us from under the bus.

It's a different person who drives the bus and who gets the bags. Isn't it. The bags arrive later at the resort.

If the ME driver handles bags for you(carryons that go under the bus etc) then it is appropriate to tip $1 per bag. If the driver is very friendly and adds in a positive way to your experience then a tip is appreciated. If your driver simply gets you from point a to be and does nothing special then no tip is needed(or should be expected).

For your bags delivered to your room by ME, no tip is required since that tip is handled by Disney.

You will get all sorts of opinions on tipping.

Myself, I give the driver between $3 and $5 with the two of us riding in the bus, whether we have luggage or not.

I also leave an envelope in my resort room with the note "luggage delivery" on it. I leave between $3 and $5 in it.

The gratuity for baggage delivery for the bellman is already included but is only a nominal amount, $3 or $4 I believe.
If you only have a few bags this is fine but if you have several bags and they are large and or heavy a few extra bucks is always appreciated.
I like the idea of the envelope in the room, I'd have never thought of that and what a simple, efficient idea it is!
:thumbsup2

As others have stated, if you are using DME as it was intended, meaning you put the DME tags on your bags on your trip to orlando, and let them deliver them to your room, that tip is taken care of already. If you want to give a little extra just because you want to, leave an envelope close to the door as possible, that says "for luggage deliver person" or something, they still may miss it, as all they do is put the bags in the room and move on.

If you dont use the luggage delivery service thru DME, and you collect your own bags at MCO (meaning you didnt put the tags on them) and the driver handles your bags, it is customary to tip 1-2 bucks per bag. Now, that doesnt mean you HAVE to tip if you dont think you got a good service, OR a lot of people wont tip if the driver in any way 'asks' for a tip. A tip is something that the CUSTOMER should decide on. Or if you do use the deliver service, and you still have a larger carry on that goes under the bus, you again should tip.

I have tipped before when we took DME and didnt have a bag as the driver was very friendly, told a couple of stories as we were driving from resort to resort and just put the 'magical' in DME.

Our family of 3 tips $10 each way....afterall, it is a FREE transfer. You'd be paying a lot more if you didn't take DME...plus gratuity.....if you're "Grateful" for the free ride, then IMO, a tip is customary, and does not depend on who handles or does not handle your bags.

Maybe you guys can help me out with my ME tipping question. When we were there earlier this year, on our return the the airport our WONDERFUL ME driver dropped us off. It was HOT and crazy busy. I was alone with DD(7) and she tripped so I went to help her, turned around and the bus pulled off. I felt awful, standing there with my tip in my hand. Is there any way to get a hold of the driver who helped us? I took a note of his name while we were on the bus because he was absolutely great! (I looked for his name and then wrote it down once we'd checked in at the airport as I was worried I would forget). If I have his name, is there somewhere I could call to find out if I can get his tip to him? I am worried that if I leave it til we go back next year, he might not be there anymore. He was SOOOOO great with all the passengers and being behind schedule, I am sure he was under a lot of pressure.

You could call the main WDW number and see what you can find out, but, IMO, I would just make sure to try to get an 'atta-boy' attached to their file / info something like that. Things like that can go much further, again IMO, for someone then a few bucks. Now, I'm sure the person would've loved your money, dont get me wrong, but sometimes an official Thank You is worth more. I know when we have customers call in to our busines, after they've been here, and give us a Thanks! it means a lot. That means they actually thought enough of our service to take time and let us know.:wizard:

As it has already been said, I always tip $1 per bag that the bus driver has to put underthe bus ( this is only on the way home because we fly SW). As for the bags after we check into our room I leave an envelope with $5 inside on the table. On the outside I have writen Baggage Delivery Person in black marker. We do the same for house keeping.

You should contact Disney's Magical Express Guest Services at (866) 599-0951. ME is not operated by Disney so you should call ME directly.
