We will be taking ME from the airport at 7 pm (or later if our flight is delayed). Should we expect to get our luggage that night, or would we be better off picking it up at the airport and carring it ourselves? If we do have it delivered, do we tip when it is delivered to our room? Thanks!

I would expect that your luggage would be delievered the same evening.

On the few occassions we have been in our room when our luggage is delivered, we generally hand over a 5 for our bags. (4 of them)

If your bags area being delivered through DME, then no, you do not need to tip the delivery person. They are already being tipped for this service, it is included. This is one of the great things about it. The only time any kind of tip may be needed is if you take your bags with you, on the bus, and the driver has to stow them, and then drag them back out. Then, he/she would expect a tip. But not the person who brings the bags to your room. We have been told that a tip has already been given through the DME program.

Our ME docs clearly state "you will not have immediate access to your luggage...your luggage may take up to 3 hours to be delivered to your resort room after you have checked in." Since you are scheduled to arrive at 7pm (or later), I would suggest you claim your own luggage, unless you have a carry-on with essentials for the night.

I agree that you should tip if the ME driver stows/handles your bags. The ME docs also state "You do not need to be present for your luggage to be delivered to your room." That gives me the impression that there is no need to tip for regular ME delivery to the room.

Here's the thing...no matter where you are going, what airline you are flying on, you should always have a carryon with anything that is essential to you for the first 6 hrs of your trip. I've had bags misdirected so had to rely on what I had in my carryon. If you have clean undies, a swimsuit, pr of shorts/tee shirt, as well as those travel size toiletries, you should be good to go. Even if you arrive late at night, you should be able to make do with what is in your carryon bag that evening. If I'm flying in at a late hour, I usually have a big teeshirt to sleep in, just in case my bags don't make it to the airport at the same time I do!!!
