I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction for the answer to this question. When we leave FL our destination is Canada but our first stop when flying is within the US. Do we still have to get the ME 4 hours before our flight or will it only be 3 hours due to the domestic stopover? TIA.

If your first flight is domestic, then it will be three hours.

The four hour timing is only if your first flight would be international, because it gives you the extra time to go through customs.

You can check over at the Transportation board for any additional information you may need about ME.

Thanks for the info. I haven't been to the transportation board. I'll check it out too.

Actually, what matters is your final destination (assuming that your trip is booked as a single itinerary). You are considered an INTERNATIONAL traveler and will be picked up 4 hours (ish) before the flight.

You will also not be able to use RAC (though you can get your boarding passes printed by the concierge).

No one goes through customs in MCO – you go through customs (and immigration) when you reach your destination. Unlike the US, Canada does not do pre-clearance at the departure airport (and the US doesn’t do it in all Canadian airports, for that matter).

Be there, done that, bought the t-shirt.

I may have made an incorrect assumption; it sounded like they were flying somewhere else first for a few days, then returning home.

Aha. I may have made the wrong assumption - it sounded (to me) like they had a connecting flight.

That is how I read it as well.

It sounds like the flight has a final destination of Canada but with a stop in the US.

Thanks for the info. Yes, it is a single itinerary, we just have a short stop in a US city before connecting to Canada.:)

No worries at all. I was totally unsure about it when it happened to me. Actually, my first flight ended up being canceled, so I spent the night at MCO (well, at the Hyatt - airline paid) and I ended up on a direct flight the next morning.

I do not have good luck on flights home from MCO; my flight in February was three hours late - when you factor in the four hour advance pick-up (and we were the last stop and no traffic), I was at MCO for a VERY long time!
