Last time I used Magical Express I waited in the line at the desk and all they did was hem and haw over my passes and sent me over to the bus.

Do we really have to wait in the line at the desk? Or can we go straight to the bus if we have all our documents?

No they do check you in and let the resort know your coming from the system.

But you never really know the bus driver also scans you on the bus so who knows.

Maybe I will just meander over to the bus queue first and see what happens...

The CMs at the DME Welcome Center counter do not just "hem and haw" over your paperwork.

They enter you in the computer, ask and enter how many pieces of luggage you checked (so that it will be delivered to your room), and activate you in the scheduling queue for your resort so that a motorcoach will be dispatched to your resort within a reasonable amount of time.

If you tried to board a motorcoach before your voucher is activated in the system, you would probably be sent back to the DME Welcome Center counter when they unsuccessfully try to scan your transportation voucher.

Bypassing the DME Welcome Center counter is probably a good way to end up spending a lot of extra time at the airport.

Not to mention when there are 5 buses sitting waiting to load, as soon as you approach and ask which one goes to X resort, staff will know you haven't checked in. Not to mention the queue lines inside that are full of people that have checked in and were there before you.
So, while it does seem like a minor inconvenience to check in at the welcome center, it really does serve a purpose ;)
