ME for luggage only?

I would think that when people reserve a rental car, they would reserve one that fits their needs. If you know you have 5 people, with 6 or 7 bags, then you probably shouldn't book a G6! Yes, it's more expensive to reserve a larger car, but that's a cost of doing business if you want a rental. Sure, I would have loved to book a compact car last spring, but since we had our 4 bags, 3 people, and picking up 2 others later on, we had to go with a larger car!!

We are just not doing anyone any good here if we tell them to book DME for just luggage transferral. Disney has made it's rules quite clear. Can you 'work the system'? Sure, but there is no way that I am going to recommend it to someone and have them have a terrible experience based on what I said!!! I try to give good advice and let people make their own choices.

I would hope that if someone did do this, (use the luggage service, and not ride the bus), that when they check out of their resort a "luggage transfer fee" appear on their resort bill.

That would solve the entire problem. It would keep the job simple for the folks on the tarmac at MCO. It would keep it simple for the folks that just didn't read the instructions with DME. It would keep Disney's bottom line down.

I don't think anyone said many (any?) guests are using DME for luggage only let alone it being a problem. The only real problem would be if the luggage makes it to MCO and then to WDW but the guest never clears standby and needs to get the bags sent back home. I suspect this situtation is VERY RARE. That is the posted reason for holding the bags at MCO.

Having a posted luggage transfer price might have an opposite effect. Guests may actually be willing to pay it and the service might get used. Towncar companies might even encourage passengers to do that.

Disney would have a problem trying to charge a guest for only using part of a free service. Disney has not said, nor will they ever say, one of the purposes of DME is to keep us on site. Guests who use DME for luggage only saves Disney paying Mears around $25 /passenger. Sending guests back to MCO to get their luggage would not be very popular, nor do the airlines want to get luggage back.

I wouldn't suggest any use DME for luggage only. Why risk the unknown? But I doubt this is a real problem.
